Jakar dzong bumthang, According to legend, when the lamas assembled in about 1549 to select a site for a monastery, a big white bird rose suddenly in the air and settled on a spur of a hill. This was interpreted as an important omen, and the hill was chosen as the monastery's site and for Jakar Dzong, which roughly translates as 'castle of the white bird'. The Zhabdrung's great-grandfather, Ngagi Wangchuck, founded the monastery.

The Punakha Dzong also known as Pungthang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang (meaning "the palace of great happiness or bliss", is the administrative centre of in Punakha . Constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang namgyel, in 1637–38, it is the second oldest and second largest dzong and one of the most majestic structures.

Paro Taktsang ( Tiger's Nest), located in the cliffside of the upper paro valley is the one of the most popular buddhist temple in Bhutan first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours in the 8th century.
