Paro Ta-dzong (watch tower)
Ta dzong simply translates to a watch tower and it is located in Paro right above the town. It is called a watch tower because back in the day it was built for the main purpose of keeping an eye on the intruding enemies from the north. Usually if you observe carefully, all these watch towers will either be built on top of a hill or a cliff primarily to have a clear vision of the entire location.

Today this place is the national museum of Bhutan and it houses over 3000 old relics and antiques.
Visitors are allowed with a small entrance fee being collected and its opening timing is from 9AM - 5 PM BST.
Highly recommend visiting this place to learn and see first hand the ancient arts and artefacts, weapons used for battle, etc.
The rest, I will leave it as a secret for you to explore yourself!

Brief history on Pangrizampa school of astrology
This is the only school in Bhutan with particular focus on astrological studies. Locals visit this place for astrological readings regarding marriage, new birth of child, year long predictions, astrological reading of individuals etc.

Every year, the college of astrology carries out a monumental task of performing a grand ritual called Jana chidoe which simply translates to rituals performed for the wellbeing of all people and sentient beings from the forces of nature, ill-luck, ill-health and misfortune.

It is located approximately 8kms away from the capital city Thimphu with a driving time of less than 20 minutes.

Dongkola goenpa/monastery sits on top of a hill overlooking Paro valley. Dongka tsen(deity) is the protector of Thimphu and Paro valley. Every year, in almost every yearly ritual conducted in homes of people living in Thimphu & Paro, they make offerings to their protecting deity for good health and bountiful harvest. Takin, scientifically referred to as Budorcas taxicolor is the national animal of Bhutan. It is a very peculiar animal with a combination of cattle body and goat head. The people of Bhutan believe that the divine madman lama Drukpa Kuenley in order to portray his spiritual powers to non-believers of buddhism joined the head of a dead goat and body of a cattle together and became alive. This briefly explains how this animal came into being.
Today you can see this animal at the takin preserve or the national zoo in Motithang, Thimphu.

Almost 70% of Bhutan is forested, and nearly 13% is primary forest, the most biodiverse and carbon-dense type of the forest in the world.
Our constitution mandates a minimum of 60% forest coverage. We are not only carbon neutral but the only carbon negative country in the world.
