This is to inform you that the Competency Assessment will be conducted on July 29, 2026, at the GAB Training Institute, Bhutan Post Building, 2nd Floor.

We kindly request all tour guides who have not yet completed your competency assessment to attend on the above-mentioned date.

Please note that this assessment is only for tour guides whose licenses have not expired for more than two years. We also request you to bring your old guide license with you on the day of the assessment.

𝐆𝐀𝐁’𝐒 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐤𝐞.

A recent video showing three female tourists swimming in a lake has generated considerable confusion, with some viewers questioning whether the location is in Bhutan.

To verify the claim, we consulted several of our senior professionals and experienced trekking guides. Based on their collective experience and knowledge, they believe the lake featured in the video is not found in Bhutan. Additionally, there is no known lake in Bhutan by the name "𝑻𝒔𝒉𝒐 𝑵𝒂𝒌𝒑𝒐," as indicated in the video's title caption.

Further, our tour guides would never permit such activity, as our lakes are regarded as sacred and treated with deep respect and reverence. Swimming in these lakes would be considered inappropriate and contrary to local cultural and spiritual values.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of our Chairman, (Garab Dorji) a distinguished leader whose life and work have left a profound impact on Bhutan's tourism industry and beyond.

With nearly three decades of dedicated service in tourism, he has been more than just a veteran tourist guide. He has been a mentor, teacher, trainer, and a source of inspiration to countless guides and tourism professionals across the country. His deep knowledge, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence have helped shape the standards of guiding services in Bhutan.

Beyond tourism, he is widely admired for his compassion, social consciousness, and commitment to community welfare. As a thoughtful social advocate and an active champion of waste management and environmental responsibility, he has consistently encouraged others to contribute toward a cleaner and more sustainable Bhutan.

His leadership is characterized by humility, wisdom, and a genuine concern for people. Through his guidance, many have grown professionally and personally, benefiting from his experience, encouragement, and vision.

On this special occasion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contributions and wish him good health, happiness, and many more years of meaningful service and leadership.

𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗞𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧

Dear tour guides,

The Guide Association of Bhutan (GAB) is pleased to announce the 4th Batch of the Trekking Training Program for interested candidates.

Eligibility: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Culture Guide
Slots Available: 30 only
Selection Criteria: First-Come, First-Served basis

As per the required standards, the course consists of 400 hours (64 days) of training. Therefore, we encourage only those guides who are committed and willing to complete the entire training duration. The training is expected to begin most probably in the first week of June 2026.

This is a valuable opportunity to enhance your guiding skills and expand into trekking-based tours. Early registration is highly encouraged due to the limited number of seats available.

The registration fee for the trekking training is Nu. 3,000/- (Ngultrum Three Thousand only), which will be adjusted towards the training fee during the course. However, candidates who withdraw after registration will forfeit the registration fee.

𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫

Today’s 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿 program was a great success. In commemoration of 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗗𝗮𝘆, volunteers came together for a cleaning and advocacy initiative that began from the parking area of the GAB office and covered the entire stretch of Phendey Lam. The collective effort reflected a strong commitment to waste reduction, environmental responsibility, and community service.

The Guide Association of Bhutan (GAB) extends its heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, partners, and especially the dedicated volunteers who participated in today’s program. The event was coordinated by the Chairman, together with Board Directors and passionate waste advocates.

Zero Waste Hour is a national initiative aimed at addressing waste management challenges. It encourages government offices, corporate bodies, private organizations, civil society organizations, and individuals from all walks of life to dedicate just one hour toward raising awareness on waste reduction and educating communities about sustainability and its importance.

This initiative is observed on the second day of every month. By dedicating one hour, participants contribute to reducing waste while inspiring others to take collective action toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

GAB remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental stewardship and will continue organizing such initiatives to help ensure a sustainable and thriving Bhutan for generations to come.

Alongside this meaningful initiative, we also pay our deepest respect and gratitude to all teachers for their invaluable service to society.
