Bumdrak hike is a two days hike above Paro valley. Known for its scenic views and beautiful summits. It’s a pilgrimage site for locals and Buddhist followers because Bumdrak means “Rock of one hundred thousand footprints” of dakini.
Hike starts form Sanga Choekhor monastery and end at Ranthangka base. It’s takes you through lush green pasture land and fir forest. Bumdrak camp site is approximately at 3800 meters above sea level. Interested one can hike up from camp site to sky burial hill tops which are above 4000 masl. The nature of the hike is moderately difficult.

Distance- approximately 21 km
Highest Altitude- Approximately 3970 masl

Merak-Sakteng Trek
Starting point- Merak, much easier than from Sakteng
Ending point- Sakteng village
Distance-Approximately 22 kms
Highest altitude-Approximately 4200 masl
Lowest altitude-Approximately 2900 masl
Best time for the trek- Spring and Autumn season

The trek starts form Merak village with gradual ascend with beautiful view of Merak until Nakchungla Pass(4200). After the pass trek leads to the pasture land of monads through fir and rhododendron forest. If you are slow walker one can spend a night at Makda Thang camp site.

Longtey- Phobjikha (Kumbu village) hike
Approximately 9 kms,
Highest Altitude-3650 masl

The trail starts form Longtey village a small semi nomads settlement below Pelela pass and ends at Kumbu village in Phobjikha. It starts with mild ascent through dense Rhododendron forest and tall coniferous trees. Best time to hike is early spring, a flowering season for Rhododendrons. You can see different species like Rhododendron arboreum, Rhododendron kesangiae and Rhododendron hodgsonai. After crossing Jichula Pass one can enjoy beautiful view of Gangtey Goenpa and Kumbu village.
