July 20: First sermon of the Lord Buddha
One of the most sacred days in the Buddhist calendar, the day honours Lord Buddha’s first sermon at Deer Park in Sarnath, India. On this day Buddha spoke about the Middle Path and the doctrine of the Four Noble Truths to five monks, which is known as the First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma (dharmachakra). In Bhutan, the day is observed as “Drukpa Tshe Zhi”, which translates as the fourth day of the sixth month of the Bhutanese calendar.
