Lam Drukpa Kinley, known as the Divine Madman, is one of Bhutan’s most beloved saints. Born in the 15th century, he taught Buddhism in an unusual way—through humor, songs, and playful acts—showing that true wisdom is found not in strict rituals but in joy, freedom, and love. Though remembered as the Madman of Druk, his teachings live on in Bhutan, especially at Chimi Lhakhang in Punakha, where couples go to seek blessings for children, and through the tradition of painting phalluses on houses to bring good luck and drive away evil. His legacy reminds us that happiness itself can be a path to enlightenment.
