On this glorious occasion, we the family of Bumchu Tours & Travels joins the Nation in celebrating 110th 'National Day'. 17th December is a day where we should all remember our heroes who without any hesitant sacrificed their life and fought numerous battles from the invaders and didn't let to conquer over our soil and in fact we are enjoying its fruits today. So, we wish the same pace of peace, security and harmony prevails in the country for thousands and thousands of years from today.

Coinciding with our National Day, we also wish our families, friends and all the people of western Bhutan a very "HaPpY LoMbA". Tashi Delek to all!

HAPPY BLESSED RAINY DAY, THRUEBAB TASHI DELEK !

Blessed Rainy Day is the holiday marking the end of the monsoon season in Bhutan. On this day all natural water resources in the country are considered to be sanctifying and citizens are encouraged to take an outdoor bath to be cleansed of "bad deeds, obstructions and defilements" and accumulated bad karma. Families traditionally gather for a meal of thup (porridge) at breakfast time. The holiday also marks the end of the farming season and the beginning of the harvest season.

Government offices, schools, and institutions are closed for the day.

The most auspicious hour for the ablution is determined by astrologers in the service of the Je Khenpo, the chief abbot of the country. They refer to the Bhutanese lunar calendar (essentially the Tibetan lunar calendar), but the exact method of their calculations have not been disclosed. In 2004, they determined the preferred time to be 4:00 p.m., September 22. Citizens who are unable to bathe at the exact hour instead often rise before dawn for a brisk morning splash.

Variant romanizations of the Dzongkha name of the holiday include Thrue-Bab, Thrie-Bab, and Thri-Bab. The holiday was dropped from public holiday list in 2007. The Bhutan home minister restored the holiday in 2008. People would still take the day off even when its status was non-official. (Source : Wiki)

Buddha Dordenma Statue

This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue, 100,000 8 inch tall and 25,000 12 inch tall statues respectively. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall.

The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfills an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world. Indeed a very good news for our tourists who all wish to visit eastern side and our people living in the eastern part of Bhutan. More or less opening another door for our tourists and expecting high yield tourism towards Eastern Bhutan.

The flights to Yonphula airport are expected to resume by May, two years after the domestic airport was shut down to carry out reshaping works on its runway.
