The Kingdom of Bhutan is gearing for the world's toughest and most challenging ultramarathon- the Snowman Run, which will take place on 13th October 2020.

The Run emanated from His Majesty the King's visits to the highlands, and it is aimed at protecting our natural environment and preserving the unique age-old culture and traditions of the highland communities, adversely affected by climate change.

The Run will start from Gasa Dzong and cover over 300 kilometers with mountain passes as high as 5,320m (17,454 ft) in less than 5 days before ending in the beautiful valley of Bumthang. The run will be a true test of the endurance and strength of the world's fittest elite runners.

The runners will across the breathtaking, pristine northern Himalayan landscapes, lakes, glaciers, majestic mountains, and isolated villages; always in the gaze of the world’s highest unclimbed peak- Gangkar Puenshum (7,570m).

The entire area through which the Snowman Run takes place offers perfect snapshots of the visible impacts of climate change - which are evident here in the receding and thinning glaciers.

Bhutan, through the Snowman Run, invites world leaders and the global community to take bold and transformative actions that will avert the greatest crisis humanity has ever faced.
