DR CHIEPE TUNS 99 YEARS TODAY

Born on this day October 20, 1922, Dr Gaositwe Chiepe is Botswana's first female cabinet Minister in 1972 following her appointment as Specially Elected MP.

During her time as Minister of Trade and Industry and subsequently Mineral Resources and Water Affairs, Dr. Chiepe played crucial role during the Debswana negotiations which saw the Botswana Government become a major player in the global diamond industry. Dr Chiepe retired from active politics in 1999.

The song "SHANGO NGE YEDU" was originally written in KALANGA Language in 1962, the spirit of the song was in line with Botswana People's Party (BPP)... "MOTTO"

The song "SHANGO NGE YEDU" was translated to Setswana by the composer to "FATSHE LA RONA" and was adopted as Botswana National Anthem in 1966 after full Independence...

His death was announced by Buckingham Palace, which said he passed away

The husband of Queen Elizabeth II died on Friday at Windsor Castle in England. He was 99. Philip had been hospitalized several times in recent years for various ailments, most recently in February.

SIR KETUMILE MASIRE THE BEGINNING

Masire was the first born son of Joni and Gabaipone Masire of Motebejana ward. He started attending primary at the age of 13 and half years at Rachele Primary School, then attended Tiger Kloof College in South Africa where he completed his Teacher Training Courses in 1949.

In 1950-1956 he became the Founder and Principal of Seepapitso Secondary School in Kanye. From 1956-1958 he was a farmer in Kanye, 1958-1960 he became a Journalist of the African Echo Newspaper. In 1960 he was the director of African Echo and was elected member of Bechuanaland Protectorate Legislative council (LEGCO) for Kanye South.
