The 5 AM Reality

Think waking up at 5 AM for an early morning game drive is tough? Spare a thought for the people who have already been working long before the first guest steps out of their tent. 🌅

On a cold winter morning in the bush, the day begins long before sunrise. The fire needs reviving, water must be heated, breakfast prepared in the dark, and camp carefully checked. Staff move around in pairs, remaining alert to the possibility that wildlife may still be moving through the area.

Every detail matters. The warmth waiting outside a guest’s tent, the freshly brewed coffee, the breakfast ready as the first light spills across the landscape, none of it happens by magic.

And I can confirm: there are no fairies working the night shift. 😉

There are, however, dedicated people doing the early starts, the repetitive tasks and the work that rarely makes it into the holiday photographs.

By the time our guests arrive for breakfast, everything feels calm, welcoming and effortless. That is the beauty of a well-run safari,the hard work happens quietly, so guests can be fully present in the experience.

Meet Mmadinotshe, a remarkable baobab in Botswana’s Okavango region with a reported circumference of approximately 34.4 metres.

Could it be one of the world’s largest living baobabs? Possibly—but official scientific measurements and record verification are still required.
