Botswana has been recognised as the least risky country for travel in Africa by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, placing it among the safest destinations globally in its 2025 foreign travel advisory map.

According to Spain’s updated travel risk assessment, Botswana stands out on the continent for posing minimal security or terrorism concerns to Spanish travellers. The country is categorised alongside low-risk destinations such as Japan, South Korea, and several European nations, a testament to its enduring stability and peace.

In contrast, the report lists Sudan, Eritrea, the Central African Republic, and Somalia as the most dangerous African countries for travel, placing them on the black list. Other African nations, including South Africa, Cameroon and Côte d'Ivoire, are flagged under high-risk zones to be avoided.

Botswana’s strong ranking comes as no surprise. Since gaining independence in 1966, the country has built a solid reputation as one of southern Africa’s most stable and safest nations. Despite sharing borders with countries that occasionally experience political unrest, Botswana has remained a beacon of peace and democratic governance.

The country is also consistently ranked as the least corrupt in Africa by Transparency International, further reinforcing its image as a reliable and secure destination for both travel and investment.
