Celebrating World Female Ranger Day with Flo, from head female guide to owning her own company. .
"I have been a Guide for almost 21 years.
I grew up in an area where wild animals would roam around and as a child in that kind of environment i learnt how to navigate around them. I developed the love for nature at an early stage but i didn't know which field to go into until i enrolled with BWTI, where i realised my passion for wildlife and turning it into a career..
Growing up in my home.village Gumare we used to go to our farms and would come across wild animals heading into our farming area. I had experienced wildlife and nature firsthand and that's what motivated me to pursue guiding despite the discouragement.
I was raised by a very strong and courageous mother who taught me how to survive in any situation and any challenges in Life. My mother was a farmer who was well respected in our village because of her farming skills even though she was not educated, even men would come to her for advice on farming,
So while pursuing my career i already knew that i had to work hard so that i can give back to my family despite the challenges i may encounter. I had a passion for sharing nature with the whole world although i was discouraged by men that the tour guide profession was not for women i never allowed that to set me back.
So through training perception shifted, with the knowledge and the passion to share nature with guests, guests reacted positively to my guiding skills remember woman are so gentle and we read situation before hand that helped me to rub shoulders with our male counter part.
