Safari and Guide Services

Safari and Guide Services Safari & Guide Services (SGS) is an owner-run company and is a leading mobile safari operator in Botswana with over 25 years of experience. 30 Years Young!

In 1986 Safari & Guide Services (SGS) starting running safaris into the Botswana wilderness from its base in the frontier town of Maun. In 1990 the Company relocated to the town of Kasane on the border of the famous Chobe National Park and continued its march to becoming one of the best known tailor made mobile safari operators in Botswana. We have explored and taken adventures all over Botswana a

s well as further afield and the search for new places and experiences continues unabated! In 2009 the Company welcomed Phil, Jen and Clive to spearhead the expansion and modernisation of Management and Operations. The safari industry has grown and evolved over the years but the ethos of the company remains the same: to provide an outstanding wilderness experience in a country that remains a haven for flora and fauna. Although the company has kept an emphasis on providing an “old world” safari experience, in the background we have moved with the times and your safari is designed and supported by a modern vehicle fleet, camp management and satellite communications. Most recently in 2015 and 2016 SGS has been recognised by the Safari Awards as being one of the leading mobile safari operators in Botswana.

Travel goals! What a story. The questions is, why didn’t he stay longer in Chobe?

Thanks to Ornis italica for sharing the incredible research into this roller’s journey.

“He's back! A European roller we started following by GPS last summer has produced this amazing track. After losing his partner in June he didn't reproduce. He then started touring central and northern Italy, and spent the whole of August in Croatia. In September he set off for an incredible journey to stay a couple of months in Chobe National Park, Botswana. After more than 8000 km, flying over the Sahara at over 3000 m, and crossing the Mediterranean in a single night he came back to the same nest as last year.”

PRESS RELEASE - UPDATE ON RHINO POACHING SITUATION

The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism wishes to provide an update on the status of rhino poaching in the northern part of the country since the last cases which were reported in mid-March 2020.

Since the COVID-19 lockdown began, no new cases of rhino poaching have been reported.

This decline in reported cases is attributed to reinforcement of anti-poaching surveillance and monitoring measures which are being carried out in areas where the rhinos are found.

These proactive measures have resulted in six poachers losing their lives over the last month.

The Ministry is very conscious that poachers may try to take advantage of the lockdown and the lack of movement by tourists in remote areas to carry out their illegal activities.

Anti-poaching personnel remain on active duty in all wildlife areas to counter any poaching at this time and will continue to exercise a zero tolerance approach to any criminal activities.

We wish to express our appreciation to the public for the assistance and information they continue to provide law enforcement agencies in the endeavor to combat poaching.

The public is urged to contact the nearest wildlife office or police station if they have any information related to any poaching.
