The first phase of the new Hilux build is officially complete… and boy oh boy… has this new look grown on me!

A massive shout out to everyone involved in bringing this build to life so far:

Opposite Lock Africa – for kitting out the Hilux with some seriously next-level gear. We fitted the Tough Dog Suspension TDR Pro suspension together with a set of the all-new Lightforce Performance Lighting Beast 190 spotlights.

RLD Design – once again, the Hilux is fitted with a Gen 4 RLD Canopy. It was an easy choice, as these canopies are simply on another level when it comes to quality, design and functionality.

4x4 Wholesalers Africa– for what I believe is the best looking bull bar available for the new Hilux. It completely changes the look of the vehicle while offering the protection and functionality needed for the adventures ahead.

Auto-Fit Louis Trichardt– last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to the team for putting this entire puzzle together so professionally. These guys invested some serious hours into this build, and there is nobody else I’d rather trust with my vehicles. Their attention to detail, workmanship and skill are second to none, and that’s why I always drive away with complete confidence, knowing everything has been done 110%. None of this would have been possible without them.

This is only Phase 1… there is still so much more to come, and I can’t wait to share the next chapter of this build with you all.

Stay tuned… the adventure is only just beginning.

Currently putting a new fridge from the legends at AR_ON through its paces!

Over the coming months, I’ll be testing it in real overlanding conditions to see how it performs when it really counts.

My first impressions? Very positive. Solid build quality, a premium finish, and it’s performing exactly as it should so far. Looking forward to seeing how it handles plenty of kilometres, corrugations, dust, and African heat.

📍 Nxai Pan National Park, Botswana.

There are many beautiful places in Africa, but only a handful that truly get under your skin.

For me, that’s Nxai Pan National Park.

A place of endless space, giant skies, ancient baobabs, and the kind of silence that’s becoming harder to find in the modern world. No crowds. No rush. Just the rhythm of nature unfolding around you.

I’ve watched elephants wander across the open pans, spent evenings under star-filled skies, and witnessed sunrises that no camera could ever fully capture.

It’s not the most dramatic destination in Africa. It doesn’t need to be.

Its magic lies in its simplicity.

Every time I leave, I find myself planning my return.

One of my favourite places on Earth.

The Machine Behind the Memories

Every adventure needs a trusted companion, and for me, that companion is my Hilux.

From remote Botswana tracks and deep river crossings to endless gravel roads and wild camps under African skies, this incredible machine has carried me through some of the most unforgettable places I’ve ever experienced. It’s taken me far beyond the tourist routes, into the heart of true adventure, where every kilometre brings a new story and every sunset feels earned.

It’s more than just a vehicle, it’s the tool that turns dreams into journeys, challenges into memories, and distant destinations into reality.

Here’s to the countless tracks travelled, the wild places explored, and the many adventures still waiting over the horizon.

Some of the best memories are made when you simply point the vehicle towards the unknown and see where the road takes you.

During April, Ryan from and I set off on a last-minute, completely impulsive trip through Botswana.

Nothing planned. Nothing booked. No fixed itinerary.

We simply pointed the vehicles in a direction and followed wherever the road took us. It’s these spontaneous adventures that create the memories that last a lifetime.

Wild camping when the sun disappeared below the horizon, changing routes on a whim, exploring roads we’d never driven and discovering places we’d never seen before. No schedules, no expectations, just the freedom of the open road and the excitement of the unknown.

Sometimes the best journeys are the ones you never planned.
