Botswana's landscaped aren't just about the animals - they're also about the plants that sustain them, each with its own tale to tell.

Standing against the glow of the dusk, this baobab tells a story of survival, adaptation, and the delicate balance between wildlife and their environment.

Leopards are not only powerful predators but are also incredibly climbers - carrying their meals high into the branches to dine in peace.
On safari with Letaka, moment like these remind us just how agile, stealthy and perfectly adapted these cats are.

Thank you to all of you who take the time to write a review. As we highlight again our wonderful team. This family travelled with us last month and here is the full review from Trip Advisor:

"Amazing 8-nights (We trimmed down 1 from the Northern highlights itinerary) hard-core safari expedition, the mobile tented safari with Letaka was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Game Drives across Savuti, Mababe & Moremi, Boat cruise on the Chobe river, Mokoro Ride in Khwai - Every day was an adventure. While the nights and mornings were really cold, the fantastic game drives and camping with the crew made it all worthwhile. KG is an extremely competent (and ethical) guide and driver. We saw all the animals we set out to see. (Beyond general game, close encounters with wild dogs, Cheetahs, a Leopard and almost daily sightings of lions) Being local, a part of a network of guides, and overall familiarity with the area and animal behaviour really makes a huge difference in locating them. He was careful in explaining how he was going to position our jeep and what we needed to do; we could get close and it still felt that the animals were almost never bothered with our presence. Also, he comes across as a super confident driver and overall car expert, ensuring we had no Jeep issues in the entirety of the trip. We can see how easy cars may get stuck in the sand, mud, water crossings etc, and on some occasions KG has helped others quickly with either dispensing advice or a quick pull from our jeep. Camp crew were super helpful and nice, it was great seeing Elliot and Jean everyday, and especially KK, which we looked most forward to, as it meant we were going to be treated to amazing meals cooked with his bush oven. Overall, this is one for the bucket-list and will provide the family with memories for a lifetime. Thank you Letaka"

Thank you!

While LBJs kept us guessing, Grant Reed also snapped some more colourful birds — giving flashes of colour in the dust and thornveld.
The Central Kalahari served up more than just subtle shades this time around.

Can you ID them all?

Fresh back from the dust and drama of the CKGR, Grant’s lens has captured some epic LBJs — that’s Little Brown Jobs for those not yet in the birding know!

These sneaky, streaky, subtly beautiful birds often fly under the radar — but not this time. He’s brought back some incredible images.
But who can ID these LBJ?

📸 Swipe to see Grant’s shots and see how many you can identify!

"Incredibly competent team looked after us whilst in Botswana. Shaka was a first rate driver and guide, who was in his element seeking out both major predators and other wildlife during our trips around Chobe and other parks. Inspite of the terrain and conditions we never felt other than totally confident in him. The rest of the team provided brilliant camp cooking, had comfortable tents and bedding ready for our arrival and ensured that Inspite of the remoteness of our journey, there were plenty of home comforts - including hot water bottles for the chill African nights!"

Part 5 - "For me, the tastes and smells amplified the trip. There is nothing quite like driving through the brush and smelling patches of wild basil and sage while passing zebras, impala and giraffes. Of course, everyone is there for the animals and birds but trying the baobab tree fruit and enjoying rooibos tea next to the hippos in the water can't be beat.

Investing in a 9 night safari ensures that you have the time to really immerse yourself in all that Botswana and Letaka has to offer. The campsites are diverse with their own flavor, winning attributes and respective animal life"

Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback. We hope to see you again soon!

Part 4 - Vehicle and equipment.

"The vehicle was awesome - a real beast that served us well. We loved having the guide books available too.

Game viewing: It's hard to imagine actually seeing over 100 species on such a trip! When I saw the list of birds and mammals on both the itinerary and in the checklist book, I couldn't fathom actually getting through so many. It seemed like a list that you would have to hold onto in case you were ever incredibly fortunate to be able to do such a trip twice. And even then, you might wonder what you could actually hope to cross off and "bag." It is absolutely incredible and awe-inspiring to be able to say we saw so many! What a magnificent feat.

Overall experience: I mean 10/10, 100. Most of us didn't know what to expect but it exceeded any notions of an expectation."

Part 3 - Rating our camp staff.

"There isn't a bad thing to say about Ludick, Karabo and Evidence. They are a professional, hospitable, jovial and incredibly hard-working lot. It was a pleasure to spend the trip with them and we are spoiled because of all of their efforts.

Ludick's meals were beyond scrumptious. Favorites for me were the curry chicken, lamb and pounded beef (which I heard does honor to the dish). We definitely ate far too much in the bush because of his culinary prowess in such a setting!

As Karabo affectionately noted, my brother just about followed the pot back to the kitchen most nights. Karabo is a wonderful individual. His animal calls for welcoming you back to and sending you off from the camp are quite good and extensive. He is funny, quite knowledgeable about the bush, and a great addition to our conversations at dinner as well.

Evidence was definitely the man behind the scenes. His timing was incredible, the heavy lifting appreciated and laundry services, tidying and cleaning out of the land cruiser did not go unnoticed. He was a friendly face, hustling without breaking a sweat. It was an added bonus to celebrate Father's Day with all of the fathers at camp on our trip and with Ludick's special cake. It was hard to say goodbye to everyone! Thank you, Ludick, Karabo and Evidence!"

Part 2 - Rating our Guide. 🌟

"Mbara is an exceptional guide and a superb driver. My brother said that he never wished he was in another vehicle the entire time we were there. I agree. That is exactly how I felt as well.

Mbara knows how to anticipate what the animals will likely do next and puts you in position to get the "shot" or to just admire. He is friendly and knows how to break the ice right from the start. His company was enjoyed by our entire group, including our adopted groupmate, Kerrin. He is more than well versed on all of the different species from mammals to birds to plants. The animals' behaviors, gender identification, accompanying terms (journey, stride and tower), gestation periods, locations(!!!) and more are akin to his native language.

Mbara anticipates both the animals' behavior and the humans' needs. One of the members of our party wasn't so sure-footed when it came to climbing up to see the rock art and Mbara took them by the hand, before it was even clear there was an issue, to ensure they were able to see the art too. This was consistent with the drive as well, Mbara always made sure everyone was able to enjoy the interaction at hand by confirming recognition.

He is respected among the other guides out in the bush and manages to be king of the road, it was a treat(!) and a hoot(!). His actions are deliberate, noted, and perfected. You can tell he has spent the time honing his craft as a wonderful and expert guide. Thank you, Mbara!"

We received some lovely feedback from our guest "Alison S". It went into great detail and if you are thinking about booking and coming on safari with us, it may answer some of your questions.

Part 1.

"Pre safari info: Pre safari and arrival (welcome bags) info was perfect. While I believe that nothing can prepare a first timer, mentally, for what it is truly like to be in the bush on a mobile safari (wow, wow, wow!)... Letaka anticipates all. The website has great FAQ sections, reminders and tips. The booking was handled expertly by Jonathan. Jonathan does a really amazing job providing all of the details, answering all of the questions and helping to get the packing list into gear. He goes over and above to ensure a smooth transition and a really wonderful experience when you're there. It is a nice touch to be able to meet the man behind the emails when at the airport in Maun. Thank you, Jonathan! And thank you for making my dad's dream trip so special. To see a dream, older than I, come to fruition, in such a properly managed way, is really something"

So here we are giving Jono a surprise in the office today. Thank you Jonathan for all you do for Letaka!

Eyes in the canopy. Silence on the ground.
When a leopard locks its gaze, time seems to hold its breath.
A cheetah staring intently waiting for its next move. Thank you again sandra.petrowitz for these intense images.
Moments like this—rare, raw, and wild—are what Letaka Safaris is all about. Our expert guides know where to look, when to wait, and how to read the rhythm of the bush.
