From May 24–26 in Kuche, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), the People's Republic of China, a Belarusian delegation participated in the Xinjiang International Tourism Development Conference and the Travel Agencies Conference dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the XUAR.

Director of the National Tourism Agency Dmitry Morozov and consultant at the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus Nina Bogdanovich held a series of bilateral meetings with their Chinese counterparts focusing on increasing mutual tourist flows, developing combined tour packages for other Chinese provinces based on the direct "Belavia" flight route from Ürümqi to Minsk, as well as preparations for the participation of a Belarusian delegation in the international EXPO exhibition "China-Eurasia," scheduled for June 26–30, 2025, in Ürümqi.

The XUAR is one of the most dynamically developing tourism regions in China. In 2024 alone, more than 5 million domestic tourists visited the region. The area has accumulated significant experience in attracting investments into tourism infrastructure and comprehensive development of tourism products. Considering the availability of direct air connections, this region represents one of the most promising areas for cooperation between Belarusian and Chinese tourism operators.

Delegations from Armenia, Australia, Russia, Italy, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Japan, South Korea, and other countries also participated in the events.

🌿 The Mythology Museum in Belarus invites visitors to explore three interconnected worlds: the heavenly realm, the underworld, and the human world — all symbolized by the Tree of Life. Its crown represents the sky, the roots — the subterranean realm, and the trunk — our human existence.

Inside the human hall the traditional calendar reveals the life cycle tied to nature and seasons. The underworld is not a place of horror, but a realm of spirits responsible for nature’s power, earth’s fertility, and the underground waters.

The eco-trail “In the Land of Myths” brings you into contact with living, sacred nature. Installations of mythological beings and immersive interpretation evoke a presence — a mysterious guardian of untouched nature.
To walk this trail is to step into ancient knowledge. You'll begin to see the invisible and hear the voice of the land.

Belarusian Vytsinanka — the art of paper cutting — was officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024. This recognition honors not only its artistic value, but also its cultural code passed down through generations, as well as its educational, aesthetic, communicative, and therapeutic significance. The listing was made possible through the joint efforts of Belarusian artists, researchers, and cultural institutions. Currently vytsinanka is practiced by over 300 artisans across 48 regions of Belarus.

🕰️ A History Journey
Vytsinanka dates back to the 15th–16th centuries, when it was used in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania as a document protection tool. A folded, symmetrical paper cutout was placed over wax seals on documents — an early form of tamper-evidence similar to modern security tape.
By the 17th–19th centuries, vytsinanka became popular as folk decoration across Belarus. Thanks to the availability of paper, cultural exchange, and changes in home interiors, it found a place on windows, walls, icons, and festive spaces. Its patterns tell stories of Belarusian life, mythology, traditions, and both rural and urban heritage.

🔍 Symbolism and Style
Vytsinanka designs reflect a deep worldview — a synthesis of ancestral symbols and concepts. They are either:
- Geometric, inspired by embroidery, weaving, or woodcarving;
- Figurative, with plant, animal, or object motifs.
Plant motifs echo painted chests and rugs of the early 20th century. Animal motifs, especially birds ("ptushki"), link to pagan beliefs as symbols of happiness. Object-based cuttings depict silhouettes of architecture, household items, and more.
Round floral-like cuttings were known as "kvetki", window lace as "firanki", and triangular pieces as "vugolniki".

You can explore vytsinanka traditions at craft centers in Novogrudok, Berestovitsa, and Senno, or visit the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture at the Academy of Sciences.
At the Belarusian tourism Exhibition ”Otdyh-2025” our booth was decorated with authentic vytsinanka works.

Is "Jianzhi" the Chinese version of vytsinanka?
Not exactly. Though similar in material and technique, Chinese jianzhi (剪纸) and Belarusian vytsinanka have very different roots and meanings. Jianzhi is deeply woven into Chinese festivals and rituals, often symbolizing luck and wish fulfillment. In contrast, vytsinanka centers on decoration and protective symbolism. Calling jianzhi a "Chinese vytsinanka" oversimplifies their rich cultural distinctions.

Today vytsinanka is alive and thriving. It’s studied in art schools, used in fashion and interior design, turned into tattoos, and celebrated in festivals and hand-made. It bridges generations, preserves identity and inspires globally — just think of the incredible paper cut works of Beatrice Coron!

Getting started is both simple and profound: just take some paper and scissors — and create your own unique design. Or join a therapeutic workshop and discover the meditative beauty of this living tradition.

🐝 Once upon a time there were bees first...

Meet belarusian rancho "V Hutorskoy Tishi" (means "in the quiet of the farmstead") — an award-winning agro-ecotourism estate located in Vishnevichi village, Grodno region, Belarus. Proudly named the "Best Agro-Ecotourism Estate of 2024," this charming spot was founded in 2015 by the Pavliuchik family, continuing the ancient beekeeping traditions passed down through generations from Brest region.

Over the past decade the estate has captured the hearts of countless visitors who've expressed their appreciation not just through words but also by returning again and again. It's no surprise the estate has received numerous regional and national awards and the recent "Poznai Belarus" award surely won't be their last.

"After winning the "Poznai Belarus" award in 2024 we expanded by purchasing an additional plot, doubling our land about 1.5 acres to create an even more comfortable space for our bees and guests," — the owners proudly said.

The Pavliuchiks specialize in apitherapy (bee therapy) and recently introduced an enchanting "Sleep in the Hayloft" experience, offering three cozy sleeping places. Guests can relax in a peaceful room filled with the scents of wood and fragrant mint, resting comfortably on handmade linens and hay-stuffed pillows, accessible through a charming balcony entrance. Can you feel yourself already dreaming of visiting "V Hutorskoy Tishi"?

They've also built a delightful new terrace — a tranquil retreat offering stunning panoramic views, perfect for sipping magical herbal teas crafted by Lyudmila, already legendary among visitors, or enjoying unique craft wines made by Vasily.

🤝The 18th China International Outbound Travel Market (COTTM2025) is being held from April 24 to 26 in Beijing. This B2B event features the participation of tour operators from nearly 50 countries. The previous edition of this exhibition took place from October 16 to 18, 2024, during which the Republic of Belarus was represented by a large booth. Starting this year, the organizers decided to hold the event in the spring, which significantly reduced the number of exhibitors due to the short time gap between exhibitions.

This year, Dmitry Morozov, Director of the National Tourism Agency, held a series of bilateral meetings during the exhibition to discuss the development of tourist flows between China and Belarus, the organization of the Belarusian National Stand and the B2B workshop at the ITE2025 exhibition in Hong Kong on June 12–15. He also coordinated marketing actions in the Chinese market with Russian colleagues to promote joint cross-border tours, made possible by the entry into force of the visa mutual recognition agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. Discussions also covered ways to promote tourism products on Chinese social media platforms and online booking platforms. 🇨🇳🇧🇾

On April 21, a working meeting was held at the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Hong Kong between Consul General Tatyana Kharlap and Director of the National Tourism Agency, Dmitry Morozov. The meeting was also attended by Vice-Consul Nikita Petruchenya and Matthew Ma, Seasoned and Accomplished Director of ETP Asia (Professional Tourism Destination Promotion Organization)". The participants discussed the outcomes of the Belarusian delegation’s participation in the international tourism forum that took place in Hong Kong from April 14-17, as well as plans for organizing the national stand of the Republic of Belarus at the upcoming International Hong Kong Travel Expo, scheduled for June 12-15. As part of this exhibition, the Belarusian side is preparing to hold a B2B workshop/contact exchange between representatives of Belarusian and Chinese tourism industry players.

The southern regions of China are among the most significant outbound tourist destinations. For instance, tourists from Hong Kong rank third among Asian countries in terms of overseas travel and lead in per capita spending on such trips.
At the same time, southern China offers a wide variety of leisure options for Belarusian tourists.

A combined approach using both online and offline marketing activities to promote Belarusian tourism products is essential to increase tourist flows from this region of China, as awareness of Belarus's tourism resources remains low among both professionals and tourists at present.

Straw weaving. A cultural symbol of Belarus and a unique phenomenon with no analogues in the world!

In Belarusian villages, straw — leftover from the harvest — was one of the most accessible materials. People used it to make both decorative and everyday items: hats, household tools, protective charms, souvenirs. It was even used for roofing, wall insulation, woven footwear, and occasionally added to bread.

Over time, the craft took on an artistic direction. Artisans began making straw figures (birds, animals, dolls), wall panels, and intricate hanging decorations called pavuki—geometric straw mobiles suspended from ceilings during holidays.

Why was straw weaving included in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage?

1. Deep-rooted tradition
The craft dates back to pre-Christian times and reflects the strong bond between humans, nature and the land.

2. Unique techniques
The methods of preparing and working with straw, as well as various weaving techniques (braids, twists, joining seams), are passed down orally and through demonstration from master to apprentice across generations.

3. Cultural significance
Straw items have traditionally played a role in holiday rituals—Christmas, Maslenitsa, Kupala Night. They were believed to protect against evil spirits and were seen as decorations that brought warmth and prosperity to the home.

4. Risk of disappearing without preservation
Due to industrialization and changing lifestyles, handmade straw weaving is vanishing. Support from the government and international organizations is key to keeping the craft alive and evolving.

5. Artistic value
The diversity of forms, story-based compositions, and the high level of craftsmanship make straw weaving a true form of folk art—worthy of international recognition.

Today, Belarusian artisans actively lead workshops, participate in exhibitions, fairs, and folk culture festivals, keeping the straw weaving tradition alive. Thanks to their efforts, this ancient craft continues to be preserved and developed.

Foreigners may visit any place in Belarus within 30 days of their visa-free stay. However, one must arrive and leave the country only by air.
