What do northern lights travellers do before the sky turns dark?

On our Yukon Northern Lights Tour, the days matter as much as the evenings.

One daytime highlight is the Yukon Wildlife Preserve near Whitehorse, where northern species are cared for in large natural habitats. It is a useful introduction to the animals that help define the Yukon landscape, including moose, caribou, muskox, mountain goats, sheep, foxes, lynx and more.

Then, after daylight touring, the rhythm changes. The group returns to Whitehorse, prepares for the evening, and heads out again to watch for the aurora borealis under the Yukon night sky.

The aurora is never guaranteed. That is exactly why this tour is designed with substance by day and atmosphere by night.

A grizzly bear viewing day does not have to feel rugged to be remarkable.

In Prince Rupert, guests board the Inside Passage, a 72-foot catamaran with five viewing decks and floor-to-ceiling windows. It is built for stable, comfortable wildlife viewing, with plenty of space to watch, photograph, and take in the protected fjord waters of the Khutzeymateen.

The vessel’s shallow draft is one of its quiet advantages. It allows the captain, when conditions permit, to navigate close to the sedge grass banks where grizzly bears may be feeding.

Aspire Canada Tours’ July 4 Grizzly Bear Tour brings guests from Vancouver to this setting in a single carefully planned day, with flights, transfers, and marine touring arranged for them.

One of the quieter highlights of our Yukon Northern Lights Tour happens before the sky turns dark.

During the day, guests visit the MacBride Museum and Sam McGee’s Cabin, where Yukon history, Gold Rush legacy, and Robert Service’s famous northern storytelling come together in Whitehorse.

It is a reminder that this four-day tour is not only about watching for the aurora. By day, guests explore the character of Yukon through wildlife, history, Southern Lakes scenery, and time in walkable downtown Whitehorse. By night, we head out under the northern sky for aurora viewing.

The lights can never be guaranteed, but the journey is built so the Yukon still feels meaningful, memorable, and well worth the trip.

For more than 30 years, Prince Rupert Adventure Tours has operated locally from the north coast of British Columbia.

That matters on a day like this.

On Aspire Canada Tours’ Grizzly Bear Tour, guests travel from Vancouver to Prince Rupert, then continue into the Khutzeymateen with a long-running local operator who knows these waters, this coastline, and the careful pace required for responsible wildlife viewing.

Our July 4 one-day expedition is designed for travellers who want access to remote grizzly country without having to manage the logistics themselves.

Careful planning, experienced local partners, and the right season all help create the conditions for a memorable day.

There is something different about arriving in the Yukon by air.

With Air North, Yukon's Airline, the journey north begins before you even reach Whitehorse, with warm onboard hospitality and the sense that you are travelling to a place with its own rhythm, history, and night sky.

Our Yukon Wildlife & Aurora Explorer Tour includes three evenings planned for aurora viewing, plus daytime touring in and around Whitehorse, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, MacBride Museum, Carcross, the Southern Lakes, and the Yukon River waterfront.

It is designed so the journey is rewarding by day, even while you wait for the sky to come alive at night.

Fall 2026 departures are now available from Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton.

A remote grizzly bear sanctuary, reached from Vancouver in one carefully coordinated day.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, guests depart Vancouver Airport aboard a private Air North, Yukon's Airline charter flight to Prince Rupert, then continue by catamaran into the protected waters of the Khutzeymateen, one of British Columbia’s most remarkable coastal grizzly habitats.

The day is timed around a low-tide window, when more shoreline feeding areas may be exposed. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but the combination of local expertise, tide-aware timing, and responsible viewing gives the day a strong sense of purpose.

Flights, transfers, meals, tour hosting, and the marine expedition are all coordinated for you.

Early bird pricing is available until April 30, 2026.

Stops like this are part of what makes our Yukon Klondike Tour memorable. Guests do not just pass through. The tour is designed to leave room for the places, stories, and small details that give the Klondike its character.

If you have been thinking about seeing the Yukon in a more organised and comfortable way, this tour is a very good place to start.

At low tide, the shoreline becomes an important feeding ground for grizzlies.

Instead of roaming deep in the forest, bears often come down to the exposed tidal flats to forage for food such as clams and other shellfish, while also grazing on shoreline plants like sedges. It is one of the reasons low tide can be such an interesting time for bear viewing, the beach itself becomes part of the story.

This photo captures that kind of moment beautifully, with two bears working the shoreline as the tide sits low.

Our Grizzly Bear West Coast Tour on Saturday, July 4 is timed on a low tide day, giving guests the chance to experience this remarkable coastal behaviour in one of British Columbia’s most memorable wildlife settings.
