Sad news for our community today. Our condolences to his family and many friends. Rob will be missed.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of artist Rob Buckland-Nicks, beloved owner of The Flight of Fancy in Bear River.

Rob was more than an artist—he was a creative force, a storyteller, and a cherished part of the Bear River community. Through his work and his gallery, he inspired countless visitors and locals alike, leaving a lasting impression with his vision, warmth, and passion for the arts.

The Flight of Fancy stands as a reflection of Rob’s spirit—welcoming, imaginative, and deeply rooted in the beauty of this place we call home.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, visited his gallery, or experienced his work.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire community during this difficult time. 💕

The sun has set on our 2025 season. What a summer it was! Thank-you to our wonderful staff, and all the guests who made this our best season ever.

We still have some harvesting to do, and the wine making process has us working long days in the cellar right now. But our wine shop/tasting room will be closed for the season as of Monday.

Final day open: Sunday October 12th, 11am-5pm

Beautiful Pinot Gris clusters! One of our most difficult varieties to grow in Nova Scotia. It is always a proud moment to bring in a nice harvest of Gris. It will be a small batch of wine, but we are focused on the quality.

Next big harvest day here will be our reds. Likely this Saturday!

Harvest time!

Yesterday was our first day of picking here at our vineyard, after starting harvest earlier in the week at one of our grower’s vineyards. Geisenheim was first off the vines. It was a beautiful day and we had a great crew - thanks to all who participated!

We have lots more to do. Harvest will resume here next week, once things dry out following the rain (yes, we are actually gettng some rain).

Always an exciting time of year here!

Round 2 of artist recognition and an update on inventory of available wines!

We recently shared a post featuring the label art for 5 of our wines. Today we are recognizing the artists responsible for an additional 5 bottle labels:

Cardinal Chardonnay - Kelly Foxton
Pileated Pinot Gris - Hilary Jamnik
Say, Val - Gregory Muszkie
Bearly Baco - Anita Amaro
Red Eft - Wayne Boucher

We are down to the final bottles of Chardonnay and Bearly Baco - they will not make it to the weekend. Pinot Gris should last another couple of weeks. Say, Val will make it to the end of the season, and the Red Eft is well stocked.

We are maintaining our regular business hours, 11am to 6pm daily, until we close for the season on Thanksgiving weekend. Hope to see you here!

Hard to believe that the sun has set on another summer here. I know that, technically, it’s still summer. But to most of us Labour Day is the start of the fall season.

It’s also hard for us to believe that September 1st marks 8 years for us as proud owners here at Bear River Vineyards. A lot has changed, but so much stays the same… especially the beautiful sunsets!

There is lots of time left in our season to come for a visit. We are still open 11am-6pm every day until thanksgiving - including Labour Day!

A little splash of attention for our local artists that are featured on our labels. Left to right:

Elizabeth Meyer - Lightly Lucie
K Shaw - Lighthouse L’Acadie
Elizabeth Meyer - Tidal Bay
Gregory Muszkie - Rose Eh?
Richard Gregson - Greater Yellowlegs

Of course, we have many more artists featured on our labels. We will do another picture and post at some point, but wanted to share this as it was posted by Wines of Nova Scotia.

Thanks!

Did you know each wine at Bear River Winery features its own unique label designed by local artists from the town of Bear River? 🎨

Every bottle is a reflection of the creative talent in this small community. It’s just one of the many ways this winery supports local art and celebrates the place it calls home!
