Boating to the Grand Rapids.
Just a word of caution for the Jet Boating community. We get many inquires from folks that just want to come down on their own to see the Grand Rapids, and that's awesome, but we feel it's imperative that we let people know what they are up against. Coming down to this area for over 30 years has given us some valuable insights that we would like to share with the boating community. 98% of all the pictures and videos that we post on social media of the Grand Rapids were taken on the West Side. We want to let people know that it's not 'just a walk in the park" in order to access the same places we go. We are not trying to discourage anybody from doing the trip on their own, we just want them to be aware of what they can expect once they get close to the Grand Rapids. If you're going to make the 200 + KM trip just to get close to this amazing site, you should avoid the disappointment of just getting close, and look into the option of hiring a guide. This is a once in a lifetime place to visit, and is well worth the extra cost to be able to be one of the very few that ever get to experience it. Also going forward after chats with our insurance broker, due to liability issues we are no longer able to offer any advice to boaters wishing to visit the Grand Rapids on their own, such as, how to get there, where to park, where to hike, etc. etc. etc. so please don't ask. GRAND RAPIDS, ATHABASCA RIVER. This set of famous CLASS VI rapids are located on the Athabasca River, in North Central Alberta. Situated in the Grand Rapids Wildland Provincial Park 250 Km +/- downstream from the town of Athabasca and approx. 140 Km +/- upstream Fort McMurray, Ab. The only way to reach this remote, and incredible piece of wilderness is by water or air. That's where we come in!
