A rainy morning at Lake Louise.

Most people dream of seeing this place under blue skies, but there’s something special about it when the clouds settle into the mountains and the rain softens the landscape. The crowds thin out, the lake turns a deeper shade of turquoise, and the whole valley feels a little quieter.

Not every mountain morning needs sunshine to be memorable.

Have you ever wondered where we get that bright blue colour of our Rocky Mountain lakes?

That unreal blue-green colour at Emerald Lake isn’t edited, filtered, or some Parks Canada marketing conspiracy. 💧🏔️

The colour comes from something called glacial flour (also called rock flour) , an extremely fine sediment created as glaciers slowly grind against the surrounding mountains. As snow and ice melt, that sediment washes into the lake and stays suspended in the water.

When sunlight hits the lake, those tiny particles reflect the shorter blue and green wavelengths of light, giving Emerald Lake its famous colour.

Basically: glaciers are giant natural blenders with excellent taste in aesthetics.

Not every wildlife sighting happens deep in the backcountry. Sometimes the Bow Valley Parkway decides to casually remind you whose home you’re driving through.

Spotted this incredible bull moose moving through the trees on a quiet stretch of road in the Rockies. One of those moments where everyone in the vehicle suddenly stops talking for a second.

The mountains have a way of surprising you when you slow down long enough to look around.

One of the best parts of guiding is watching guests experience these places for the first time. Even after living here, it still never gets old.

Also worth noting: spring hiking season currently involves sunshine, snow, mud, winter jackets, and questioning your layering decisions. All in the same afternoon.

Early start. Empty trail. And one of those moments that reminds you why it’s worth getting out before everyone else.

On Tuesday’s hike at Emerald Lake, we were lucky enough to spot not one, not two, but three moose along the trail.

Seeing even a single moose in the Canadian Rockies can feel special. Seeing three together is something else entirely. Quiet, massive, and somehow able to disappear into the forest like they were never there at all.

The early bird gets the worm. Around here, sometimes it gets the moose too.

Stanley Glacier, Kootenay National Park📍

It’s not often you come across a valley shaped by fire and ice together, but Stanley Glacier is exactly that. Towering limestone walls, glacial landscapes, and the powerful remnants of ancient wildfire create a hike that feels both wild and unforgettable.

This is more than just a trail, it’s a front-row seat to the raw forces that shaped the Rockies.

How lucky are we to call this place home 🌎

From alpine lakes to quiet forest trails, every step out here is a reminder of just how special the Rockies are. Earth Day is a good excuse to slow down, take it in, and do our part to keep these places just as wild and beautiful for the next time we lace up our boots.

See you out there 🌿
