Day 4 – Our next stop along the Danube was beautiful Vienna, Austria!

We spent the morning exploring the historic city centre on a guided walking tour, passing grand palaces, beautiful gardens and some incredible architecture.

A few highlights included the Hofburg Palace, the stables of the Lipizzaner horses, and of course, Vienna's gorgeous cafés!

We finished our guided tour at St. Stephen's Cathedral, where we took the elevator up for some amazing views over the city!

The afternoon was ours to wander, shop, enjoy the café culture and simply take it all in.

Vienna certainly has a charm of its own — elegant buildings, fascinating history and beautiful little corners everywhere you turn.

Day 3 – Today was all about exploring the Austrian countryside!

Cassandra and Turner opted for a bike tour through the beautiful Wachau Valley, while others in our group visited the magnificent Melk Abbey, one of Austria's most famous historic landmarks.

In the afternoon, we made our way to the charming village of Dürnstein, often called the "Pearl of the Wachau." Known for its picturesque streets, vineyards, iconic blue church tower and the hilltop castle ruins where Richard the Lionheart was once held prisoner!

One of the things we're really enjoying about river cruising is having the choice to explore each destination a little differently. Whether it's cycling through the countryside, visiting historic sites or simply wandering through a village, there's something for everyone.

Day 2 – Three Countries in One Day!

From Budapest we made our way to Bratislava, Slovakia, for a guided walk through the charming Old Town and some free time for lunch.

Then it was off to Austria, travelling through the beautiful Wachau Valley to Marbach, where our AmaWaterways ship was waiting!

Finally onboard the beautiful AmaMagna!
Cassandra managed to squeeze in a little work (someone has to! 😉), touring different stateroom categories, four dining venues, the spa, fitness facilities and sun deck, complete with a pool, hot tub, pickleball and mini golf!

After a little unexpected change to our plans due to low water levels, we're excited to unpack and settle into river cruise life!

🇭🇺 A little hello from Budapest, Hungary!

Cassandra is currently exploring Europe with Turner and her parents, who are experiencing their very first trip overseas!

Our trip started with a little unexpected change of plans! Due to low water levels on the Danube, AmaWaterways arranged for us to spend our first night in Budapest at the beautiful Hilton Budapest instead of onboard our river cruise.
And what a fantastic location! Situated in the UNESCO-listed Castle District, our corner room overlooked the stunning Matthias Church.

After a great first day exploring the Buda side, we enjoyed dinner on Fisherman's Bastion before heading out on an evening paddle-wheel cruise along the Danube.

Seeing Budapest illuminated at night was absolutely spectacular! ✨ Cruising past the Parliament Building, under the famous Chain Bridge, and admiring the city's beautiful architecture from the water was a pretty memorable way to end our first day.

Travel doesn't always go exactly as planned, but sometimes the unexpected turns into something pretty wonderful.
