You check your passport.
The expiration date is still months away.
So you're good to go… right?
Not necessarily.

Your passport can be unexpired and still not meet the requirements for the trip you're planning.

And it's not always just about the country you're visiting. Your itinerary, connections, and the requirements that apply to each part of your journey can matter too.

It's one of those travel details that's easy to overlook — especially when you're busy booking flights, hotels and all the exciting parts of your trip.

Passport validity is about more than the date printed on the page.

I've written about the details travellers should check before booking and before leaving home — because discovering a passport problem too late can be a very different kind of travel experience.

There’s something about arriving at a hotel after a long day of travel and finally being able to exhale.

The journey may have involved luggage, family, schedules, connections and a lot of moving parts — but once you arrive, the hotel experience can make a real difference.

A welcoming arrival, a smooth check-in, a comfortable place to settle in… those little things can turn the end of a travel day into the beginning of a good stay.

Because getting there is only part of the journey. What happens when you arrive matters too.

I’ve shared more about this in my latest travel story — including why where you stay after arriving can be an important part of the overall travel experience.

You booked your flight. You paid for your ticket. So you're guaranteed a seat....right?

Not necessarily.

It's something many travelers don't think about until they are standing at the airport -- and by then it may be too late.

Airlines can overbook flights. And when there are more passengers than available seats, someone has to deal with the consequences.

So what can you do about it?

There is one important step I recommend taking when you book your flight -- not when you arrive at the airport.

I explain what it is, what to look for in your reservation and how I can help you as your Travel Advisor in my latest blog.

Not all cruise cabins are created equal.

A cabin may look like a bargain on the deck plan, but its location can make a big difference to your vacation.

I've seen travellers end up beneath a busy buffet, close to the theatre, or near the anchor machinery at the front of the ship—only to discover that early mornings and late nights weren't nearly as peaceful as they had imagined.

When you're choosing a cruise, it's worth looking beyond the cabin category and asking one simple question:

"What's above, below, and beside this cabin?"

A few extra minutes checking the ship's deck plan before booking can make all the difference between a restful voyage and a week of interrupted sleep.

Every cruise line has different ship layouts, so a little planning goes a long way.

✈️ A 45-minute connection through Toronto might look like plenty of time when you're booking online... but is it really?

For travellers leaving Halifax, even a small delay can turn what looked like an easy connection into a stressful sprint through the airport.

The cheapest itinerary isn't always the smartest one. Sometimes giving yourself a little more time between flights can make the difference between starting your vacation relaxed—or missing your connection altogether.

In my latest blog, I explain why connection times matter and what I look for when helping clients plan smoother journeys.

Sometimes the most famous landmark isn't actually the thing you'll remember most.

Everyone comes to Peggy's Cove to see the lighthouse.

I did too.

But once you're standing there, something changes.

The granite stretches farther than you imagined.

The Atlantic sparkles in every direction.

The wind carries across the rocks.

And suddenly, the lighthouse becomes just one part of a much bigger experience.

It's a reminder not to rush.

Take time to wander.

Sit on the warm granite.

Watch the light dance across the water.

The photos you'll treasure most may not be the ones you planned to take.

Sometimes they're the ones you capture after you've stopped trying to check a destination off your list.

Some evenings don't need an itinerary. They simply unfold one moment at a time.

A ferry crossing Halifax Harbour.

Friends gathering on a patio after a busy day.

A bike ride around Citadel Hill.

People slowing down to enjoy the view before heading home.

These are the little moments that give a place its character. They're often the moments that stay with us long after the trip is over.

Halifax has a way of making an ordinary summer evening feel memorable—not because of one attraction, but because of everything happening around it.

What would your perfect summer evening in Halifax look like?

Yesterday, Halifax came alive with celebrations across the city, but sometimes it's the quieter moments that stay with you.

A cyclist carrying the Canadian flag around the Emera Oval. Families enjoying the parks. Friends gathering by the harbour. These everyday scenes are just as much a part of Canada's story as the fireworks at day's end.

One of the things I enjoy most about exploring a destination is finding these simple moments that reflect the character of a place.
