Sled Island

Sled Island A multi-venue music and arts festival taking place in Calgary, Alberta each June. But Sled Island is about more than just five days in June.

Since its inception in 2007, Sled Island has been proud to showcase a whopping 852 unique Alberta bands, including 630 from Calgary, as well as comedy, film, art, special events and conference programming in 154 unique Calgary venues to a combined audience of more than 415,000 people. The organization operates with only three full-time staff as well as a passionate base of support made up of 400+

volunteers annually and 550 unique partners to date. It’s a year-round catalyst for music, arts and community and a beloved connector of partners, volunteers, artists and audience members. The festival is a leader in fostering all-ages, green, safer spaces, inclusion and accessibility initiatives. It’s also an important economic driver. A 2015 economic impact study produced by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance showed that Sled Island generated $3.4 million in economic activity for Alberta that year.

Crawling out of the “Pulp Fiction” pawn shop, TEAR DUNGEON arrives masked and gruelling.

Pumping turbulent tracks with sardonic lyricism and a dose of doom, their splatter-punk gimmicks include pouring (fake) blood down their gullets onstage.

For a pulverizing listen packed with brutal instrumentation and madcap vocals, start with their debut 2018 EP “Gory Hole!”

Expect a common ground for old and new school punks, or anyone who can stomach the spectacle really. That’s why we made sure there’s two chances to catch them at Sled Island this year!

Catch TEAR DUNGEON with BIG EVIL RAT, Invisible Hand and Brass Lip on Saturday, June 20 at The Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club.

They will also be closing out the Sled Island Wrap-Up BBQ on Sunday, June 21 with Wheelchair Sports Camp, afk, Sheenah Ko, RroachH, Shy Friend and more!

Tickets are on sale now at SledIsland.com.

FLOODING. is the undertow that tugs at you softly, then all at once. Drifting between slowcore, post-rock and noise, last year’s EP “object 1” was a doom-leaning return pulling apart male fragility with a mix of tenderness and abrasion.

Embodying a dizzying softness and harshness within the same breath, the Kansas City-based trio hits even harder live.

Catch Flooding with Horse Rider, Pike-Band and Witch Victim on Thursday, June 18 at The Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club.

Day passes and tickets are on sale now at SledIsland.com.

Toronto’s Dijah SB (formerly Kzaraw) slides between slick synth loops and heavy bass claps with ease.

Pairing sharp wit with real vulnerability, their third EP “The Flower That Knew” landed on the Polaris Prize longlist offering a clear-eyed look into the life of a black non-binary artist in motion; always growing, despite the storms.

With nods to Kid Cudi and Lupe Fiasco, DijahSB moves confidently with introspection and unfiltered flow.

Catch DijahSB with Ice Tha One, TeaFannie Music and (un)decided on Friday, June 19 at BLOX Arts Centre.

Tickets are on sale now. And, for those under 18, an all-ages pass will also grant you access to the show.

Presented in partnership with Black Pride YYC.
