Open-jaw and multi-city tickets can save you days. They can also cause problems if you skip the fine print. Check these 5 things first.
1. One ticket, not stitched together. One ticket number means the airline looks after you if a connection breaks. Two stitched tickets mean you're on your own.
2. Baggage. On a single ticket, bags are normally checked through. Most Indian domestic economy fares from Air India and IndiGo allow about 15 kg checked, well below your international allowance. Buy extra domestic baggage ahead of time.
3. Don't skip a flight. A no-show on one segment can lead to the rest being cancelled. If you plan to take a train instead of an included domestic flight, ask the airline first.
4. Change rules. Open-jaw fares often have stricter changes. Ask what the fee is before you pay.
5. Entry. For an Indian e-Visa, you must arrive at a designated airport, but you can leave from any immigration check post. Delhi, Mumbai and Cochin are all on the arrival list.
Price check: Air Canada's fares in early October 2026 showed Toronto to Delhi returns from about CAD 1,618 for late-October travel. An open-jaw won't match to the dollar, but it shouldn't be double either.
