Sawback Alpine Adventures Sawback was founded by Tom Wolfe in 1995 as a small one-man operation, running mountain hiking trips for groups in BC and Alberta.

We asked Sawback guide Christian Schlumpf about his favourite trip to guide, and while it was a tough choice, ski traverses of the Canadian Rockies were high on his list.

The nature of a ski traverse is that you must move forward, often through variable weather and mountain conditions. There are usually a few different route options, each with different pros and cons. To be successful, the team needs to come together, support each other, and sometimes push through some doubts and discomfort.

Winter is fast approaching at Burnie Glacier Chalet, and we’d love to have you join us for some of Canada’s best (and least crowded) backcountry terrain.

Burnie offers the freedom of a private lodge with endless terrain right out the door: long, glaciated alpine objectives, reliable midwinter powder, epic tree skiing when the storms roll in, and typical touring days of 1,200–1,600 vertical metres.

There are still a few spots available for the 2027 season, including one last-minute opening for a full-chalet booking from January 8–15. A cancellation has opened up this week, and we’re offering it at 30% off for a group of family or friends.
