Somewhere between the headlines and the hard feelings, it’s worth remembering what Canada and the U.S. have always had in common.

Thump.

That unmistakable tap on the rod when a Lake Nipissing walleye decides to eat.

This week, that thump was followed by something pretty special. A young angler set the hook himself and found himself connected to a 29” walleye.

The night before, he had spent the evening in the Sturgeon Falls emergency room getting an infected bug bite treated. With a sore arm and very little sleep, he still showed up the next morning ready to fish.

The fish pulled hard. His mom asked him a few times if he was okay as it worked him toward the side of the boat, but he held on and kept reeling.

When it finally came aboard, the smile on his face said everything.

He was proud.

He may not realize it yet, but a 29” Lake Nipissing walleye is a rare fish to hold for a few seconds and I think this is one he’ll remember for a very long time. Congratulations!

Ontario’s backcountry should be accessible to everyone.

Today, Lake Nipissing Outfitters safely transported a couple, their canoe, and all of their camping gear across Stormy Lake in Restoule Provincial Park to their backcountry campsite. We’ll return next week to bring them home safely.

Fishing with an “old guy” is a lesson in humility.

He’ll spend the morning telling stories, miss half of what you’re saying, and somehow still out-fish everyone in the boat.

When you finally ask what he’s using, he’ll grin and say, “The same thing I told you to tie on an hour ago.”

Some lessons are learned the hard way. Others are learned from someone who’s already lived them.

This past week brought sunshine, smiles, and unforgettable moments on the water with three generations sharing time together.

Fishing is about so much more than catching fish. It’s about slowing down, enjoying the moment, learning through each experience, and building confidence through patience and persistence.

The laughter, the stories, and the connections made on the water are what make these days so special. These are the memories that last long after the boat returns to the dock.

Today, Lake Nipissing Outfitters was proud to support the Government of Canada’s 2026 Census by providing water taxi transportation on beautiful Trout Lake in North Bay, Ontario.

As a fully licensed, registered, and commercially insured operation, I can add corporate and government clients as additional insured parties when required, allowing me to meet the needs of government agencies, utilities, and other organizations working in remote locations.

Providing safe and reliable access to hard-to-reach places is what I do. When clients face transportation challenges, I take pride in finding practical solutions and getting the job done right.

I’d also like to thank the wonderful people I met dockside this morning. It’s always a pleasure meeting friendly people while working on Northern Ontario’s waterways.

This Monday morning, Lake Nipissing Outfitters completed a 65 km water delivery to Sandy Island, west of the French River.

Our task was to transport furnaces and a certified gas technician to a remote island property, ensuring the client had the equipment and expertise needed to install a dependable propane heating system.

Remote properties often present logistical challenges that require reliable transportation and careful planning.

Sometimes solving a problem is as simple as getting the right people and equipment to the right place.
