HOW CLOSE IS TOO CLOSE? 🐻🐻🐻

Well… today we found out. 😳
Mom and her two cubs came over the bank just as we had started moving our guests from Tower 5 to Tower 6.
There was no question about what came first: get the guests back into the tower and keep everyone safe.
Troy and I stayed behind, while Glen took care of our guests, we remained calm, and did what we’re trained to do — giving our guests time to get safely back into the tower while managing the bears and discouraging them from coming any closer.

The two cubs, now about two years old, came to within roughly 10 feet of us. Definitely closer than we ever want or plan to be!
But there was no panic, no running and no sudden movements. We stayed calm, held our position and gave the bears clear boundaries until everyone was secure and the situation could resolve safely.

These are the moments that remind you that we are visitors in their home. You can plan routes, distances and procedures, but wildlife doesn't always follow the plan. Sometimes the bears decide where they're going — and our job is to respond calmly and put safety first.

And then there was Squawks… 😂
While all of this was going on, Squawks was happily fishing in the river and apparently decided we needed a different kind of wildlife viewing experience.
Let's just say he spent some time mooning us, sticking his butt straight up in the air while fishing. 🍑🐻😂
From an incredibly intense few minutes to laughing at Squawks…
Just another day in grizzly country. 🐻❤️

WOW… what another EPIC day with the grizzlies!
Sometimes wildlife viewing is all about patience. You wait, you watch, and you wonder if anything is going to happen…
And then it starts.
And when it’s THIS good, every minute of waiting is forgotten.
Moments like this are exactly why I never get tired of being out there. A beautiful grizzly, surrounded by that incredible coastal rainforest, giving us a moment I’ll remember for a very long time.
Wildlife doesn’t work on our schedule — and that’s exactly what makes it so special.

🐻 WHAT. A. DAY. 🐻
I’m still trying to process what we experienced today…
And process the pictures, my mac is already three hours downloading and still isn't done, so this is a very small selection of picttures.
13 GRIZZLY BEARS and even 1 BLACK BEAR! 🤯
In all my years on the water and guiding wildlife tours, I have never had a grizzly tour quite like this one.
Everywhere we looked, there seemed to be another bear. Watching these incredible animals moving along the river, feeding, interacting and simply doing what bears do best was absolutely unforgettable.
Days like today remind me why I love doing this so much. You can spend hundreds of days in the field, but nature can still completely blow your mind.
13 grizzlies. One black bear. One absolutely incredible day. ❤️🐻
And yes… I took a few photos. 📸😂

Just a little teaser of what’s hopefully to come…

Tomorrow is our FIRST Grizzly Bear Tour of the season, and I couldn’t be more excited!

I’m hoping we get the chance to capture moments like this again — but with wildlife, you just never know what Mother Nature has planned for you. That’s what makes every trip so special.

I’m also really looking forward to heading back into Toba Inlet and working alongside our friends at Klahoose First Nation again. It’s always one of the highlights of the year.

Cameras charged, gear packed… now bring on the bears!

Grizzly season, here we come!
