Marine Link Transportation to support transport of essential goods and services for BC Ferries during Heriot Bay – Whaletown berth closures

Marine Link Transportation is excited to support the community by transporting essential goods and services for BC Ferries between Cortes and Quadra during the Heriot Bay and Whaletown terminal closures from February 9th to March 1st, 2026. The terminal upgrades are focused on replacing marine terminal infrastructure to accommodate new, higher capacity Island Class vessels, expected to reduce roadway congestion to create safer, and easier access to the terminals for vehicles and walk-on passengers.

We will be operating the MV Aurora Explorer on scheduled runs between Heriot Bay Government Dock (Quadra) and Gorge Harbor (Cortes), Monday to Saturday, with three round trips daily (starting from Heriot Bay). BC Ferries staff will be on hand at both ends to assist customers. Tuesday is reserved for the transport of dangerous goods.

Advanced booking is required for commercial vehicles, and those transporting essential goods and services. Passenger vehicles may also be accepted in special cases, depending on space and approval. BC Ferries will have an online booking request form available on January 6th, 2026.

For more information on the barge service and schedule, and to submit a booking request, please visit BC Ferries’ Heriot Bay – Whaletown Terminal Projects page: bcferriesprojects.ca/heriot-bay-whaletown-tp

Marine Link Transportation is proud to support the local islands and residents in the beautiful areas we sail. Please visit our website or give the office a call should you have freight or commercial delivery needs.

Did you know? 🤔
Bute Inlet is a regular waterway sailed on our Discovery Islands tours. She may look quite chilly right now, but in a few months, the MV Aurora Explorer will be sailing through these waters enjoying warmer temps and calmer winds.

Yesterday.. Bute Inlet is putting on a show of raw power!

These incredible outflow winds have made boating impossible for the past few days (and likely for a few more). We're stepping in to help move people up and down the inlet by helicopter.

Ever wondered what creates these powerful outflow winds? In BC's inlets, dense, cold air builds up in the high mountains during the winter. This heavier air then rushes down the inlet towards the ocean, creating strong, gusty winds that can be a force of nature. It's a reminder of how powerful and dynamic our coastal environment can be!
