Looking for a dining experience in Canmore? 👀🍴

Check out these three local gems that take mountain dining to its peak.

🌿 Sauvage
Tucked away on a sleepy side street, Sauvage is a love letter to the land. Chef Tracy Little crafts every dish with wild-foraged ingredients, a deep respect for the land, and stories from the mountains.

🍁 Änkôr
Refined, passionate, and proudly Canadian. Änkôr showcases Chef Danny Beaulieu’s seasonal menus, elevated by perfect pairings from sommelier Julie Hélie.

🥃 Stirling grill and lounge at the Malcolm Hotel
Start with a mountain view and a glass in hand or go all in with The King’s Table: a 3- or 5-course fine dining experience led by Chef Graham. Each dish crafted to showcase the bold flavours and seasonal ingredients with matched pours from the sommelier’s cellar.

Welcome to Canmore. You’re in foodie country now!

Meet the Pine Marten: agile, elusive, and surprisingly fierce 🐾

Often mistaken for a weasel, squirrel, or ferret, the pine marten (Martes americana) is actually part of the mustelid family, alongside otters, badgers and wolverines. Though rarely seen, they’re important members of the forest ecosystem here in the Canadian Rockies.

📍 Habitat: Old-growth forests with plenty of tree hollows
🍽️ Diet: Opportunistic omnivores. They eat small mammals, birds, eggs, insects, berries, and yes… sometimes even marmots

Likes: Quiet forests, soft landings, and staying out of sight
Dislikes: Habitat loss, trail noise, and leftover trash

🎯 Fun fact: Pine martens can rotate their back ankles, allowing them to climb down trees headfirst. Their long tails help them balance as they leap between branches like tiny forest acrobats.

Pine martens are a protected species in Canada. If you’re lucky enough to spot one, admire from afar. Don’t feed them or follow them.

Let’s help keep these wild animals wild.

💭 Canadian Rockies travel isn’t only about big hikes and summiting mountains...

Sometimes it’s about slowing down, soaking up the view, and simply enjoying the moment ✨.

Canmore and Kananaskis offer both adventure and stillness. A place to just hang for a minute.

Did you know?

The historic Engine Bridge in Canmore was originally built in the 1890s for trains carrying coal through the Bow Valley.

Now, it’s a place for slow strolls, quiet thoughts, and skies that sometimes steal your breath. 💜

📍 What Should You Know Before Visiting Canmore Like a Local?

Canmore began as a mining town in the 1880s. The mines are long gone, but the community remains. People still live close to the land, biking to work, carrying bear spray on dog walks, squeezing in a trail run before dinner. Respect for nature is is how we live.

🧭 Think of this blog as your Canmore starter pack:

• What to wear (hint: layers)
• How to use a bear bin without injury
• Trail and sidewalk etiquette
• Knowing when to summit and when to turn back

📖 Read it before you pack your bags... or your crampons.

Meet the Coyote: Nature’s Trickster on Silent Paws 🐾

Quick, clever, and built to adapt. Coyotes are one of the most resilient animals in the Canadian Rockies.

They can run up to 70 km/h, walk silently on their toes, and communicate with howls, barks, yips, and the occasional yodel.

To keep coyotes safe (and wild):
✔ Keep pets leashed
✔ Never feed wildlife
✔ Secure garbage and food scraps
✔ Observe quietly from a distance

Fun fact: Coyotes have the widest vocal range of any mammal in North America. if you’ve ever heard a mysterious chorus echo through the trees, it might’ve been a coyote just putting on a concert. 🎤

Let’s give these wild neighbours the space they need to thrive.
