Euro . I'm in Catalunya, España researching a new itinerary, travelling in my Euro van.

Before was a hashtag, I was camping in my Toyota minivan and then later my Westy and a string of Sprinters. Apart from the Westy and Eddy our Eurocamper (not pictured here), I'm not into camperised units, instead I prefer the flexibility of a passenger van with removable seats. I set them up ghetto camp style - I don't need nor want fancy. Of course life can be simpler when travelling without the family.

Columbia Icefields via the Athabasca glacier 6-8 May 2025.

It's been a full and rewarding backcountry ski guiding season, and I was happy to finally hang them up yesterday evening. The glaciers were in the worst condition I've seen in my 20 odd years of venturing onto the hydrological apex of North America.

After this year's February Facetfest, March has been consistently snowy, warm, and white. Guiding hasn't been easy, but ski quality has been great.

Awesome snow today at an undisclosed location in the Monashee mountains west of Revelstoke. Avalanche conditions are tricky, so careful terrain selection and evaluation is important!

It was very cold and dry. Then Western Canada had a big warm storm. The avalanche hazard was HIGH, so careful terrain choices were necessary. I guided five straight days in three mountain ranges. We had very good to excellent SAFE skiing.

Not everyone else did though. We were relieved we didn't witness a wreck, but it was close.

When Hokkaido gives you high pressure with no wind, you Carpe Skiem and climb a mountain.

Today we summitted Asahidake; at 2291 metres it's Hokkaido's tallest peak. The views were stupendous!
