We have had lots of new people join us in this space so it felt like time to do another introduction post. So, this is us, Susan and David! We are the owner operators of Bessie North House. One of David’s famous line is ‘I cook and Susan does everything else’ We are a two person team that run an intimate 12 seat restaurant in our 140 year old farmhouse located in Canning, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Susan has spent her career in the hospitality industry and David’s first career was in engineering then 12 years ago he made a move and went to Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa to become a chef.

We wanted to build a space where you feel welcome and comfortable and the food was super tasty. It took us almost 3 years to find this house but when we did we knew this was the place.

We welcomed our first guests in 2018 and haven’t looked back. We are starting our 8th season and are excited for you to join us!

Bessie North House is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, one seating at 6pm and a reservation is required.

Last week Dave was invited to NSCC Kingstec to talk to the pastry and culinary students about how he develops and plates our desserts here at Bessie North House. He plated a carrot dessert and a chocolate with beet dessert. What a great group of students! Lots of great questions!

A big Thank You to the instructors at Kingstec for the invite and to the students for an engaging morning.

Well here we are, another year gone by and what a year it was!!

There are so many people we want to thank and our farmers and suppliers are at the top of our list. Without them David would have nothing to cook and I would have nothing to talk to you all about! So, thank you to everyone who grows and sources our food, we appreciate you all so much.

Now I want to thank you!!! Thank you for supporting us whether it was coming to see us, sending supportive notes and emails or purchasing a gift card. We couldn’t continue to do what we love to do without you. This past season we saw lots of old friends and new and can’t wait to see you all again next season.

So let’s wrap this up……Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and a beautiful winter. Now get back to Charlie Brown Christmas and mimosas!!

Farm-to-Table Restaurant

Bessie North House is a reservation required, farm-to-table restaurant in rural Nova Scotia.

As a culmination of both of our dreams, we have opened the Bessie North House Restaurant in our 130-year-old farmhouse located on five acres of land at the base of the North Mountain in North’s Corner, Nova Scotia. Just one hour from Halifax, we’re situated in a unique corner of the Annapolis Valley in rich agricultural lands surrounded by local farms, producers, and vineyards.

Dining with us…..

We serve a seven-course, seasonally inspired prix-fixe menu using produce from our garden and other local producers. Dinner is $110 per person plus tax and gratuity.
