"In the Shadow of Thor - An Akshayuk Pass Trekking Adventure"

Not everyone is ready—or able—to commit to the full Akshayuk Pass Traverse. For 2027, we’re introducing a shorter way to experience the extraordinary mountains, valleys, and Arctic wilderness of Auyuittuq National Park.

In the Shadow of Thor is a 5–6 day hiking expedition from Pangnirtung into one of Canada’s most dramatic landscapes. This is an opportunity to hike beneath towering granite walls, move through the broad glacial valley of Akshayuk Pass, camp in true Arctic wilderness, and stand in the presence of legendary Mount Thor.

It is still a real expedition: remote, rugged, and deeply rewarding—but designed for hikers who want an immersive Baffin Island trekking experience without committing to the full multi-week pass traverse.

Expect big landscapes, long northern light, powerful river valleys, Arctic wildlife, and the kind of wilderness experience that stays with you long after you return home.

This fall, A Wilder Experience Outdoor Skills Courses are back—designed to help you move through the outdoors with more confidence, independence, and good judgement.

Whether you are planning your first backcountry trip, want to stop relying entirely on your phone for navigation, or are ready to extend your adventures into winter, these practical courses will give you a strong foundation.

🚨Story time: Croc Sport Mode in the Wild🚨

When your hiking boot falls apart on the Long Range Traverse, you have two choices: quit… or activate Croc Sport Mode. While hiking the Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne National Park, you occasionally run into other hikers. This encounter was truly exceptional.

This absolute legend chose Croc Mode. She finished one of Newfoundland’s most rugged, muddy, rocky, route-finding adventures in bright pink Crocs—with gaiters somehow attached like a piece of expedition engineering worthy of a patent.

The boot may have failed, but the hiker did not. Between the boulders, bogs, slippery ground, and endless uneven terrain, this was not a casual “walk to the mailbox” Croc situation. This was a monumental Long Range Traverse achievement.

Respectfully: these are no longer Crocs. They are high-performance expedition footwear. 🩴🏔️

Breidablik Peak (1,650 m) rises in Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island — its name drawn from Norse mythology, like neighbours Odin, Asgard, and Thor. Below its eastern flank, the Weeping Glacier flows silently into Akshayuk Pass, ancient ice in a park whose Inuktitut name, Auyuittuq, means “the land that never melts.”
Mythic names carved into towering granite, and glaciers older than memory — the Arctic Cordillera is unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Our next trip to Baffin is our annual April ski traverse of the Akshayuk Pass. A beautiful, but challenging, Spring expedition that will test your physical and mental endurance. If you’d like to see these peaks in person, reach out. Link in bio.

Over the past days, our team crossed one of Canada’s most iconic northern routes, moving through towering granite walls, braided rivers, and vast tundra under shifting skies. They faced wind, river crossings, and the raw beauty that makes this place unforgettable.
