📣Update on Fire restrictions!

The campfire ban in the Coastal Fire Centre is rescinded as of September 3, 2026 at 12 p.m. (noon).

This is for Category 1 open fires (campfire). Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction with the exception of the Haida Gwaii Forest District.

The following remain banned:

• Binary exploding targets
• Fireworks
• Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
• Controlled air incinerators
• Air curtain burners
• Carbonizers

Kelly Argue of Plows & Petticoats has been offering horse-drawn carriage rides in Chemainus since 1993, taking visitors through town at a pace that gives you time to actually look around, enjoy the murals and soak up a little of that small-town atmosphere.

And yes, it’s every bit as cute as it sounds.

The flower-covered carriage. The clip-clop of Caydee's hooves. People waving as you go by. And Caydee herself, who seems to understand perfectly well that she’s part of the attraction.

If you have family visiting, are planning a day trip to Chemainus, celebrating something special, or just want to experience our town in a way that’s a little different, book the carriage ride.

It’s one of those experiences that turns a visit into a memory.

Lost Key Fob Found at the Chemainus Visitor Centre

A key fob on a keychain was recently turned in to us here at the visitor centre. It was found under a bench at Waterwheel Park.

If you think this might be yours, please drop by the Chemainus Visitor Centre to claim it! To help ensure it goes home with the right person, we'll just ask you to confirm the type of car the fob is for and the keychain it is on.
