The Christina Lake Arts Collective is excited to bring the HOME ROUTES Tour to the Lake with an amazing line up of talented artists!

Our first artist of the series is Jay Gilday, a gifted guitarist, singer, and performer. Listen to his stories in song on Friday September 18th at the Christina Lake Welcome Centre.

Join us this Saturday from 1-4pm for the Children and Youth Peace Festival organized by the Boundary Peace Collective and hosted by the Boundary Museum!

This FREE community event welcomes people of all ages to join us in creating over 1000 origami cranes (inspired by Sadako Sasaki), making bracelets and feather painting, enjoying snacks and refreshments, and participating in interactive activities with different community members and groups. PLUS entry to the museum is by donation this day! Bring family, friends, and neighbours to enjoy a fun afternoon with your community!

🪨 DIG DAY! ROCKS, FOSSILS & THE ROCK CYCLE! 🦴

Get ready for an exciting morning of digging, exploring, and discovering the amazing story of our Earth! 🌎

This week, we're heading to the Christina Lake Public Beach to become Earth Detectives! Kids will explore how rocks change through the rock cycle, how weathering and erosion shape the world around us, and how fossils can form and preserve evidence of life from long ago.

Here's what's in store:

🪨 Rock Cycle Discovery Learn about the three main types of rocks and how they can change through melting, cooling, weathering, heat, and pressure.

🏖️ Beach Rock Hunt Search for interesting rocks and investigate their colours, shapes, textures, and patterns.

🦴 Fossil Formation Discover how fossils form and why quick burial and protection are important.

🔎 Fossil Excavation Challenge Become a paleontologist and carefully dig for hidden fossils!

🌋 Volcano Experiment Make predictions and watch a fun volcano demonstration while learning how magma can cool to form igneous rock.

🚨 IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS: This program is being held at the Public Beach instead of our usual location. A parent or guardian must stay for the entire program. Children cannot be dropped off.

🎒 What to Bring:

• Comfortable beach clothes and shoes
• Hat and sunscreen
• Water bottle
• Weather appropriate clothing
• Bathing suit, optional if your child would like to get in the water at the end
• Clothes that can get a little dirty!

Come ready to dig, discover, and get your hands dirty! 🦖🪨🔬 We can't wait to explore the fascinating world of rocks and fossils with you!

REGISTRATION is required. Spots are limited, so sign up early to secure your spot!
