Polar Bear Lift

We had the opportunity to watch a mother polar bear and her cub be released from the Polar Bear Holding Facility and transported north, where they’ll be released back onto the land.

Mum weighed in at 456 lbs, while her not-so-little cub weighed an impressive 260 lbs!

Such a unique experience and a pretty amazing reminder of just how special it is to live and work alongside polar bears here in Churchill.

We’re excited to announce that my cousin, Heather, has joined our team!

Born and raised in Churchill, Heather grew up surrounded by polar bears, beluga whales, and the magic of the northern lights. Her deep-rooted connection to the land, knowledge of Churchill’s Indigenous history, and understanding of life alongside bears and belugas long before tourism became what it is today bring a truly special perspective to our tours.

Heather has spent her life living, exploring, and embracing everything the Churchill region has to offer. Her local knowledge, stories, and love for the North will be a wonderful addition to the experiences we share with our guests.

We couldn’t be happier to have her on board as we head into another exciting polar bear season!

The Arctic ground squirrel - often called a siksik in the North - is a tough little tundra animal. 🐿️

They can hibernate for around 7–8 months of the year, and during that time their body temperature can actually drop below freezing- one of the lowest recorded body temperatures of any mammal! They spend their short summers eating, raising their pups and packing on enough weight to survive another long northern winter.
