There is a lot of lessons to be learned from this article for all my fellow travellers 🧳

1. Always buy travel insurance even if it’s just trip interruption and medical especially if you choose low cost carriers. This is Swoop and Flair. If you use credit card insurance make sure to look at your policy to make sure you are covered. Remember the whole trip needs to be on the same credit card.
2. Only use low cost carriers in Canada for domestic short haul flights. Basically somewhere you could drive if you have to or it doesn’t really matter if you go. There is a reason travel agents won’t book them and it’s not just cuz of the lack of commissions. It’s because these situations happen quite frequently with them and it’s not good service to our clients.
3. Low cost carriers are not obliged due to the small carrier protection to put you on the next available flight. This family was told two weeks before they could get them home. This is due to these airlines having very small fleets. They are protected due to this.
4. When travelling make sure to prepare for the unexpected. This includes having back up funds in case of theses situations.
5. Don’t trust the airlines to protect you. Yes I agree that the government needs to step up and ensure airlines do better. The airlines do need to face consequences as at this time they are not following the Passenger Protection act. Westjet flat out denied my claim for compensation on a flight that was their lack of staff and I even had proof it was due to that and not the customs hold up they blamed it on. Which is also funny as it was a flight from Toronto to Calgary and the major delay was there was no staff to deplane us in Calgary. So realize you can be on your own and need to be prepared.
6. WE NEED TO PUSH OUR GOVERNMENT TO HOLD AIRLINES ACCOUNTABLE.

Well as promised I have an announcement to make!!!! I will be joining on with Uniglobe Lexus as an independent agent. So over the next months you will notice changes to this page as I switch everything over to this new exciting Canadian Brand. I rarely get affected by celeberites but his death shocked me. I was a huge fan as he was about travel and food, my two biggest passions. It’s just an ugly reminder that you never can tell what someone is going through.
