Sundays are for slowing down and finding a little peace. 🌿 Looking for a quiet retreat? Discover the Meditation Garden in Victoria Park, where beauty and history come together.
Here you’ll find lush gardens and the powerful bronze statue of Fern Blodgett Sunde by Sudbury sculptor Tyler Fauvelle. Raised in Cobourg, Fern made history as the first woman to serve as a deep-sea wireless radio operator during WWII’s Battle of the Atlantic.
The statue, Make Waves, is rich with symbolism: the headphones draped around her neck, the pin on her lapel, and the wave she touches — a wave that represents not only social change for women, but also Canada’s role in the Battle of the Atlantic. A close-up shows the relief sculpted into the wave pays tribute to that chapter of our nation’s history.
Take a moment to reflect, breathe, and be inspired by this lasting tribute in the heart of Cobourg.
