Hear some thoughts from our Adventurers 💭🎲

We can tell you what an Ember Range Adventure is like, but the people who’ve actually rolled the dice, hit the trail and lived one can probably tell you better.

Thanks to Colin & Echo for sharing their experiences from A Thousand Stars of Doom 🔥

More stories are still to come.

FIELD NOTES: DAYS 3 & 4 ⛰️🎲 ⛺️
A Thousand Stars of Doom — The Finale

Our Adventurers reached the Seam — also known as the Source — to find its entrance guarded by 5 mercenaries. The battle nearly ended them, with Rowan and Briar both falling unconscious before the tide finally turned.

They captured Emmyth, the enemy archer… who proved to be an enthusiastic salesperson for her own upstart mercenary group in Calamanta. But stranger revelations awaited below.

Inside the Seam, they met Sedreth Vaun, overseeing the Twelve Ledgers — and finally learned the truth.

Each Ledger tracks a tranche of people, assigning value to their lives for the Thousand Star Guild to extract and borrow against. Disconnect a Ledger, and its tranche is swept into its corresponding vault — exactly what happened to our Adventurers.

Gold is held in those vaults as security should members die. But if an entire tranche dies — especially Tranche 11, the most valuable — the Guild could collapse, unable to repay the Seam or the entity beneath it.

And that was Sedreth’s plan. Because Sedreth Vaun was the Eleventh Ledger.

With the entity below, she intended to destroy the Guild by killing the party.

Our Adventurers survived — barely. Drodan and Breena, siblings by choice, were killed. In the final moment, Briar convinced Rowan’s hawk, Ash, to strike the final blow.

The Gardener arrived, and together they sealed the Seam. But the entity beneath revealed greater ambitions: it relishes the fall of civilizations.

And it intends to become a god.

Rowan, Briar and Tilly emerged to find the Guild destroyed. They buried Drodan and Breena together on a quiet hill and vowed to seal any Seam that might open again.

MEANWHILE, IN REALITY… 🥾

Day 3 was D&D day: playing from 9 a.m. until after midnight, broken up by an afternoon hike around Trembling Aspen Retreat & a delicious pork-and-vegetables dinner.

The next morning, we packed up, played our epilogue and closed the book on A Thousand Stars of Doom before heading back to Calgary.

And just like that, our Ember Range Adventure came to an end. 🔥 ⚔️

FIELD NOTES: DAY 2 ⛰️ 🎲 A Thousand Stars of Doom

Our Adventurers continued downhill from the mirror portal that brought them out of the Guildvaults, putting as much distance as possible between themselves and the guards of the Thousand Star Guild.

Deep in a long canyon, they pushed through exhaustion and made camp — only to discover they were being followed by a curious wolfdog… and another, much larger creature.

After resting, they met the Gardener: a gnome who invited them to her home high above the canyon wall, transformed into a bee, and flew away, beckoning them upward.

Night fell, and a troll dogged their steps. What Drodan intended as a warning shot became a full cliffside encounter. The party was victorious… but the creature could not be killed.

At the Gardener’s home, she welcomed them with tea and shared what she knew about the Thousand Star Guild. For years, she has watched its presence grow… along with its grotesque practice of marking people and turning them into speculative value.

That, it turns out, is exactly what happened to our Adventurers.

They are continuously assessed by the Eleventh Ledger, which applies its own subjective understanding of value to their marks and extracts it as gold.

Apparently, our Adventurers belong to Tranche 11 — the most successful of twelve tranches.

Why? That remains a mystery.

Tomorrow, the Gardener will lead them to the Seam, where all of this is made possible.

MEANWHILE, IN REALITY… 🥾

Our real-world Adventurers hiked a beautiful canyon in search of views away from the smoke, then visited Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary for an interactive tour & walk-around 🐺

Back at the cabins: well-earned naps, tacos and another evening D&D session.

Tomorrow: two full sessions and a hike closer to the cabins. Somehow, we’re already nearing the end of this Ember Range Adventure 🔥

08/07/2026

Tomorrow morning, six Adventurers leave Calgary for the Trembling Aspen Retreat.

By then, the food will be packed. The tents will be counted. The route, weather and equipment will have been checked again. Maps, character materials, dice, and all equipment will be loaded into the vehicle.

A Thousand Stars of Doom begins with a simple discovery: The Thousand Star Guild has always had a great deal of money… until its Guildmasters open the vaults and find the fortune gone.

In its place? The party…
with silly looks upon their faces.

Over four days, the group will camp out, explore the surrounding landscape, and play through three full evening sessions and two daytime half-sessions. The preparation is nearly complete.

Tomorrow, the vault opens.
