Canada is temporarily suspending immigration documents and pausing applications for residents of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan due to Ebola risks, preventing travel for 90 days starting May 27. From May 30 to August 29, 2026, anyone recently in these countries must quarantine for 21 days or isolate if symptomatic, while citizens and permanent residents can still return with screening; those already in Canada are unaffected.

In response to the Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and increasing risks in Uganda and South Sudan, the Government of Canada is taking decisive action by introducing temporary border measures to reduce the risk of the virus entering and spreading within Canada.

A 2024–2025 misconduct report from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) revealed 105 confirmed cases ranging from minor infractions to serious wrongdoing, including harassment, racism, fraud, conflicts of interest, and misuse of government resources.
