As an Albertan, I wish Alberta had been selected as one of the host regions for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Toronto and Vancouver will welcome the world and benefit from significant economic activity. Alberta also has world-class infrastructure, a strong tourism sector, passionate sports fans, and experience hosting major international events.
A World Cup presence in Alberta could have generated opportunities for local businesses, hospitality, tourism, transportation, and job creation while showcasing our province's natural beauty and entrepreneurial spirit to a global audience.
That said, Alberta businesses still have opportunities to benefit. Many visitors are expected to extend their Canadian travel plans beyond the host cities, and Alberta remains one of the country's most attractive destinations for tourism and investment.
