Krakow, June 7, 2026. Crowds in the Main Market Square, St. Mary’s Basilica in the background, and a colorful procession that took over the city.

This was the 25th anniversary Great Dragon Parade – organized by the Groteska Theatre since 2000. The main parade took place on Sunday at 12:00 PM along the route Planty → Grodzka Street → Main Market Square, and schools from across Małopolska marched in the parade with handmade dragons made of paper, fabric, and plastic. Why do we do this? It’s not just a tourist show. The whole parade is rooted in the legend of the Wawel Dragon – Krakow’s symbol for centuries. The dragon once lived in a cave under Wawel Castle until a clever shoemaker named Skuba outwitted him. Today Krakow doesn’t fear the dragon, it celebrates him. That’s why every first weekend of June the city turns into a living legend.

Think Wieliczka = just the salt mine? Right next to it, in St. Kinga’s Park, there’s a wooden fortress that heals.
> This is the Wieliczka Brine Graduation Tower – opened at the end of 2014, the largest of its kind in southern Poland. It covers 7,500 sqm, measures about 53x69 m, stands 22.5 m tall, topped by an octagonal viewing tower over 22 metres high.
> Inside, a larch-wood structure is packed with blackthorn twigs. Brine pumped from the mine flows over them, breaks into droplets, evaporates and creates a salty mist. The graduation process concentrates the brine to at least 16% NaCl, up to about 27%.
> Why come? It’s a natural inhalation chamber. Breathing the aerosol works as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and cleansing, especially valued for allergies, asthma, chronic respiratory infections and skin conditions. It’s considered one of the best natural treatments for chronic respiratory disease, it boosts immunity and clears airways – great for rhinitis, bronchitis, sinusitis. The sweet spot is 30 minutes.
> Wieliczka isn’t new – salt has been mined here for over 700 years. The tower’s design echoes the mine’s old cooling towers.

Part 2 of the procession from Wawel. On Grodzka Street today I filmed the Sacred Heart shrine carried in blue capes, women in authentic Krakow folk dress with a Marian image, and the red-robed choir in front of Sts Peter and Paul Church.

What is it? Catholics believe Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, the bread consecrated at Mass. Once a year, on the Thursday 60 days after Easter, they carry Him in a gold monstrance through the streets of every town. People build four outdoor altars, scatter flower petals, sing hymns. It is faith made public.
In Krakow it starts at Wawel Royal Castle Cathedral, the place of Polish kings. Today I filmed: the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre in white capes, the Order of Malta in black, the historic Krakow Marksmen Brotherhood in red fur hats, foresters, nuns, and families.
In a noisy world, this shows what matters most and what is invisible: presence, peace, community. It was a deeply solemn, moving moment. Filmed in Krakow, June 4, 2026.
This is a recording from the very beginning – the procession leaving Wawel Castle. The route then leads along Grodzka Street to the Main Market Square.

I came from Canada to visit my home country. I started in Krakow, and every time I’m on the Old Market Square I get the same feeling – goosebumps. Every cobblestone under my feet remembers more than a history textbook.
> These tenement houses are hundreds of years old and they hide an enormous history in their walls. I stop by this great head of Mitoraj and the miniature of the Town Hall Tower, I sit on the professors’ bench in Planty and I just listen to how this city has been talking for centuries. Here in 1525 they knelt before the king, here in 1794 Kościuszko swore his oath, and today I eat in the same place as the pre-war artists and the post-war bohemia.
> And that smell – warm pączki fried in lard with rose jam, obwarzanki and Polish dishes and amazing coffee. These smells intertwine in the streets. For me this is the taste and smell of childhood that I experienced in Poland – sweet, homely and real.

Whispers of Hooves – Krakow at Night”
Krakow doesn’t fall asleep. It just lowers its voice.
When the sky above St. Mary’s turns deep blue, the white carriages roll onto the Main Square. The clatter of hooves on cobblestones is the city’s oldest lullaby – calm, steady, like a heartbeat.
I sat with a glass in my hand, watching the horses with red tassels pass the lights of the Cloth Hall. And I realized some evenings don’t need words. Just to be. Here. Now.
Thank you, Krakow.

Kraków: A love letter to the city that remembers kings.❤️
They say Kraków has a soul. Today I heard it. In the rhythm of hooves on cobblestone, in pigeon wings over St. Mary’s, in violins playing among centuries. This city doesn’t shout its history. It whispers it to your heart. And the heart listens.

Hear a 325-Year-Old Windmill Work.
Vlissingen, Zeeland. De Oranjemolen is the Netherlands’ closest windmill to the sea, built before 1699.
Inside, timber creaks, millstones grind wheat, flour falls into the sack. Outside, the 24.5 m sails turn in the wind.
No music added – just authentic sound of wood, wind and grain. Volunteers still grind here since 2014.
