Who remembers when THIS was the map you relied on to get into the North? 🗺️✈️

A piece of Northern Ontario aviation history — a 1965 map from the Theriault Air Services era.

Long before GPS, satellite imagery and smartphones, maps like this helped connect pilots, fishermen, hunters, camps and remote communities across the North.

Theriault Air Services was already operating aircraft in Northern Ontario during this period — records show a Piper J-3 registered to the company in January 1965, and a Beaver based at Foleyet was registered to Theriault Air Services in 1964.

Today, that history continues with Air Ivanhoe.

Have you read this book? What does a lifetime of flying into Canada’s wilderness look like? 🇨🇦✈️🎣

It’s a legacy built safely one flight at a time.

For generations, our family has been safely flying anglers, hunters, adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts into the remote wilderness of Northern Ontario. Long before GPS and modern technology, bush pilots like George Theriault Sr were navigating the North, landing on isolated lakes and helping people experience places few ever get to see.

George captured 60 years of flying in Northern Canada in his book Trespassing in God’s Country — and that bush-flying tradition continues today.

There’s something special about climbing aboard a floatplane, watching the roads disappear behind you, and knowing your next stop is a wilderness lake accessible only by air.

From all of us at Air Ivanhoe, we want to wish our guests, friends, families, and fellow anglers a very Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re thankful for another season spent in the beautiful Northern Ontario wilderness, for plentiful walleyes, unforgettable shore lunches, quiet mornings on the lake, and most importantly, all the incredible people who make the trip north to fish with us.

Whether you’re gathered around the Thanksgiving table today or already dreaming about your next fly-in fishing adventure, we hope your day is filled with family, good food, great stories… and maybe a few fishing lies! 😂🎣

Another SAFE YEAR in the books! 💪👏

There’s nothing more important than everyone heading home safe at the end of the day. A huge thank you to the entire crew for looking out for one another, doing things the right way, and making safety a priority every single day. Thanks to the guests for understanding the occasional weather delay.
