Artist spotlight series 🎨✨

We're excited to introduce Niki Dorman, one of the many talented authors sharing their work through the Fort St. James Visitor Information Centre, where her book is available for purchase.

Niki grew up in the Lower Mainland and published her first article in Grade 10. After high school, she attended university and began working, which led her to step away from creative writing for some time. Now living in Fort St. John, she rediscovered her passion for writing nearly two years ago.

Niki enjoys travelling and often brings books home from her adventures, drawing inspiration and knowledge from the places she visits. Niki says her daughter is her greatest inspiration for writing. She created her book, Goodnight British Columbia, to help her discover and appreciate the many unique and beautiful parts of our province.

When asked why supporting local artists is important, Niki shared that many people pursue their creative passions alongside their everyday responsibilities. Supporting local artists helps encourage their vision, fuels their passion, and allows them to continue sharing their creativity while staying connected to the community.

Looking ahead, Niki hopes to have her book available in stores throughout Vancouver and other BC communities, helping travelers discover some of British Columbia's lesser-known destinations. She also believes her book helps encourage children to stay engaged and curious about the world around them.

If you're visiting Fort St. James, be sure to stop by the Visitor Information Centre to learn more about Niki's book and support local talent.

Thank you, Niki, for sharing your creativity and inspiring our community!

⭐ Thank you to everyone for making it a wonderful Caledonia Days! The rain couldn't dampen our fun.

We hosted the first ever chili cook-off this weekend! Congratulations to Paul Broen, Frenchie Coutu, and Joan Burdeniuk for your wins 🌶️

We enjoyed Toby's famous lego display, Zach's black powder demonstrations, horse and wagon rides courtesy of Windy Meadow Ranch , and a pie auction for the Friends of the Fort St James National Historic Site !

We were serenaded with live music by Mustang Heart and Al Trampuh, had some great vendors at our Community Market, and the kids enjoyed face painting by Jenna.

Friday was a wonderful Walk Through Time put on by the Fort St James Music Makers 🎭 Followed by more pie, of course!

Thank you, everyone! We can't wait for next year ⭐

The schedule is here! ⭐

Mark your calendars for the Fort St. James event of the summer, Caledonia Days! This iconic event started in 1956 to celebrate our 150th anniversary. It's changed forms over the decades, and we can't wait to celebrate our community with y'all again.

Unfortunately, one of the trick rider's horses sustained an injury yesterday, so they had to cancel their performances. Our heart goes out to the family. We are working on something exciting to fill the gap in the schedule - stay tuned! 🏇🏼

Artist Spotlight Series 🎨✨

We're excited to introduce Pat Gauthier Artwork, one of the talented artists whose paintings are on display and available for purchase at the Fort St. James Visitor Information Centre.

Pat moved to Fort St. James at 19 years old after visiting the community for work, she knew right away that she wanted to stay. Pat painted throughout high school before taking a break for several years and has now been painting steadily for about 21 years. Along the way, she has learned a great deal through art shows, solo exhibitions, and her involvement as a regular member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Pat says her passion for creating art has led her to meet new people, get out into the world, and discover that art is more than a hobby—it gives her purpose.
Her collection features original and plein air paintings.

Pat's goals for the future are to achieve a higher designation and Associate status within the Federation of Canadian Artists, as well as return to Scotland to paint.

If you're visiting Fort St. James, be sure to stop by the Visitor Information Centre to explore Pat's beautiful collection while supporting local talent.

Thank you, Pat, for sharing your talent and inspiring our community!
