I’m sure that everyone is aware by now that Konrad and I have been trying to take Tuesdays and Wednesdays off throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring. There are a couple of reasons for this. One being, is that neither of us wants to work 7 days a week. Another is that it’s not worth it to go out for a single fare any day of the week. We were hoping that this would push more work to Monday and Thursday.
I am still getting requests to go out on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you find it’s necessary to travel on one of those days we will be charging our hourly rate of $200.00 and we will try to make it work for you.

Here’s a quick announcement for everyone. We will be starting our “off season schedule” after the Thanksgiving weekend. We will be trying to keep Tuesdays and Wednesdays off throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring except around holiday long weekends. Please share this with anyone you know who may not be on this platform.

Now that we’re through the busy summer season I’d like to inform everyone that we’ll be taking Tuesdays and Wednesdays off this Fall, Winter and Spring. If you find that you must travel on one of those days try contacting me and we will see if we can somehow accommodate you.

You may have noticed a strong smell of smoke on island this evening.
Please be advised that there is currently a wildfire event in Nanaïmo, and that the wind directions has made the smoke travel in Galiano’s direction.
You can always keep informed on active wildfires by visiting the BC Wildfire website:

As always, if you see smoke on island do not hesitate to call 911 for all emergencies.

Effective noon today, to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety, announced a province-wide ban on Category 1 campfires 👉 https://ow.ly/8J3R50SANrP

The ban is being implemented to help prevent human-caused wildfires and help protect public safety. The category 1 (campfires) ban is in addition to current provincewide bans for category 2 and 3 fires. This means open fires of any size, except those licensed for prescribed burns, will be prohibited everywhere in BC, outside of Haida Gwaii.

To report a wildfire, unattended campfire, or open burning violation, use the BC Wildfire Service mobile app or call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free (*5555 on a cellphone).

As many of you know I have been wait listed for almost a year to have surgery on my knee. Well, they have given me a date. It will be on June 28th but I will be heading to Vancouver on the 25th.
I have made arrangements to have Konrad run the boat while I recover. He is qualified, licensed and insured on my policy.
Summer is going to be busy but I’d like to ask that we give him a break by not booking Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I know this will be difficult around the long weekends (we already have bookings for July 4th and 5th), but he is going to need some time off. Hopefully my recovery will be quick and I’ll be able to operate the boat sooner, maybe early to mid August.

Now that summer is over and things are starting to slow down a little I have come to realize that I need some time for myself. Starting the week of October 17th I will be taking Tuesdays and Wednesdays off this winter. I’m hoping that everyone can work with me on this.
If it’s an emergency and you have to travel on one of those days I will try to accommodate.
Please let your neighbours know about this. Not everyone is on Facebook.

Now that we’re getting closer to having the current COVID restrictions lifted, I have a couple of changes to my service that I would like to make. Before that though I would like to thank everyone for respecting and following those protocols.
The first change I would like to make, if I can, would be to have every second Wednesday off. The past couple of years I have not had many days off from April to October. As it stands now I have already taken Wednesday bookings up to July 7th. So starting on July 14th I’ll be trying to take every second Wednesday off.
The other change I’ll be making will be in my fee structure. I will be adding GST (5%)and PST (7%) to everyone’s fare. I made this decision in early Spring but now only started asking for it.
Just to let everyone know I have also taken quite a hit in fuel. I typically buy my gas from Thetis Island Marina and they have increased their price by 40 cents a litre (from $1.399 to $1.799).
There are rumours that it will be going higher this summer. I may have to adjust my rates again but for now I’ll just stick to the Tax raises.

Oh!!! One more thing. A bit of good news. If all goes well we have booked Gary Comeau and the Voodoo All Stars with special guest Billy Mendoza for July 30th. Better dust off your dancing shoes.

To all my valued customers.
In light of the current increasing COVID-19 cases along with the highly contagious variants and the new public travel restrictions I will be suspending my services until after the May long weekend.
This was not an easy decision to make, but I do think it is the right one. This thing has been with us for over a year now and if we can go just one more month then we should be able to return to a much anticipated summer 2021.
