Uchuck III Update 🚢

Well, this isn’t the update we were hoping to share today.

We’ve been informed that Uchuck III will not be going back into the water as planned for today, so we’re still waiting on the next update from our team at the shipyard.

As soon as we know more, we’ll let you know. If you have a reservation booked in the coming weeks, please keep an eye on your email. Our reservations superstar, Julie, will be reaching out directly if your booking is affected.

We know everyone is eager to have her back, and believe us, we are too. Thank you for sticking with us while the work is being completed. We really do appreciate everyone’s patience and support.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have more news.

Good news! We’ve been advised that Uchuck III is expected to be moved back into the water on August 7.

From there, she’ll undergo final inspections and complete her sea trials. Once those are finished, she’ll begin the trip home from Victoria. After she arrives, we’ll need a day or two to get her cleaned up, restocked, and shipshape before welcoming passengers back on board.

If all goes as planned, we’re hoping to have her back in service during the second week of August.

If you have a reservation booked during that week, please keep an eye on your email. Julie, our Reservations specialist, will be contacting passengers directly as soon as we have confirmed sailing dates. We kindly ask that you wait to hear from us, as we’re unable to confirm individual sailings until the vessel has completed sea trials and returned home. We’ll also continue to share updates here as more information becomes available.

Thank you all for your patience while she’s been away. We’re just as excited as you are to have her back, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone aboard again.

As we head into warmer, drier days, a reminder that campfires are currently not allowed across much of the B.C. coast, including Gold River.

These restrictions are in place to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires and help protect our forests, wildlife, and communities.

Even a small spark can quickly turn into a wildfire under current conditions. Instead of a campfire, consider safer alternatives like propane fire pits (where permitted) or simply enjoying the outdoors without a flame.

Before heading out, always check the latest restrictions and updates to stay informed.

Let’s all do our part to keep B.C. safe this season!

Happy Earth Day from the Visitor Centre!

Today is a reminder that the beautiful place we call home deserves our care, not just today, but every day. One of the simplest and most powerful ways we can protect our natural spaces is by following the principles of Leave No Trace.

✨ Pack out everything you bring in
✨ Stay on marked trails to protect delicate ecosystems
✨ Respect wildlife by observing from a distance
✨ Leave natural items where you find them
✨ Dispose of waste properly (or take it with you!)

These practices help keep our forests, rivers, and coastlines clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone!

With remaining grant funding from our trail map project through Destination BC, the Village of Gold River partnered with the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation and the Gold River Trail Blazers to develop a series of interpretive signs along the Antler Lake Trail. As visitors explore the forest, they can now learn the Nuu-chah-nulth words for eight species that thrive in this area, adding a deeper cultural connection to the experience.

Thank you to Nicole Veerman, Tylan Tough and Neil Lawrence for generously contributing photography to bring this project to life!
