Alec Gillies borrowed $100 from Jack Miller in order
to take part, together with Benny Hollinger, in the
discovery of the veins of gold belonging to the
Hollinger mine. Later, in 1909, those mining rights
were sold to Noah Timmins for $500,000.

Jack Byrne was born into a family of miners. Introduced at a very young age to the job of prospector, he became known throughout Northern Ontario, especially in Sudbury, Elk Lake, Gowganda and Kirkland Lake.
