Attaching a boutonniere to a suit lapel is one of the most difficult details of an elopement. You need just the right angle, pressure and persistence not to poke yourself or the groom. Who can relate?

One of my favourite guest experiences.
Chef Kat from Nomadic Kitchen putting the finishing touches on a beautiful seasonal dinner at the Pointhouse.
I love these evenings almost as much as our guests do. I get to watch talented chefs at work, pick up a few tips, and occasionally sample something delicious. Our guests get a private multi-course meal prepared just for them, enjoyed at one of the most beautiful oceanfront settings on the Sunshine Coast.
No driving home afterwards. Just a leisurely stroll upstairs at the end of the evening.
Menus are chef’s choice, built around the season and tailored to any allergies or dietary preferences. Every dinner is a little different, which is part of what makes the experience so special.
Because we work with a small group of exceptional chefs, advance booking is always recommended—particularly during the busy summer months.
When we’re able to make it happen, it often becomes the highlight of a guest’s stay.

Some places encourage you to keep moving.

Others invite you to stay put for a while.

At the Pointhouse, the ocean is never in the background. At high tide, water moves beneath the deck. You hear it before you see it in the morning. The tides, weather and light become part of the rhythm of the day.

It still catches us by surprise sometimes — just how close the shoreline feels here.

We’ve had a last-minute cancellation in our Islets Suite for this weekend if anyone feels called to trade the city for a few quiet days at the edge of the sea.

This couple honeymooned at the Pointhouse in true cocooning style. They spent the entire three days on the property except for scant 3 hours to visit the Sechelt Farmers' & Artisans' Market to restock on their favourite treats.

POV: you decide to make soap “the old fashioned way” and suddenly you’re deep into chemistry class with hot oils, lye temperatures, immersion blenders and a month-long curing process 🧼
Our first batch: simple Castile-style soap made with olive and coconut oils only — no fragrance, no fillers, just a gentle bar we hope guests at the Pointhouse will eventually enjoy. Made in a friend’s kitchen with decades of soap-making wisdom guiding the process.
I’m discovering most of these age old home arts are quite physical. For soap it’s the stirring. The immersion blender almost didn’t survive the experience. I can imagine how labour intensive the process was before the advent of modern tools though it also seems true that the newer the tool , the sooner they break down .
Now we wait 30 days.

Some serious fun and good for the planet too.

Happy Anniversary

Happy 100th Anniversary!! 🎉 The iconic "Molly's Reach" building made famous by The Beachcombers TV series was originally built in 1926 as the C.P. Smith Store. The building has served as a central landmark for a century in Gibsons on Sunshine Coast BC Canada 🇨🇦

The original structure served a variety of purposes, including a second hand store, a general store, a hardware store and a liquor store, prior to serving as a set for the television show. After the show ended it was turned into an actual restaurant.

Historical Significance

Origins (1926): The property was originally a general store before being leased by the CBC in 1969.

The original store building featured significant primary signage including:

Top Line: SMITH'S GENERAL STORE
Second Line: GENERAL MERCHANDISE
Details: It advertised dry goods, shoes, groceries, hardware, and to***co.

TV Fame (1972–1990): It served as the primary set "Molly's Reach" for The Beachcombers, becoming one of the most recognizable landmarks in Canadian television history.

Recent Years: After a period of closure, the building reopened in early 2025 under the management of the Black Bean Cafe team, who renovated the space while maintaining its historic charm. It continues to be used for filming, recently appearing in the series Murder in a Small Town.
