To say it’s been a privilege to work with these two amazing humans doesn’t even come close to how lucky I feel to have had Laura Fraser and Bethany Lund by my side these past two years.

They’ve helped raise tens of thousands of dollars, made countless field trips happen, and brought so much heart and soul to everything they did for our school community. But what means the most about our time togetjer on the PSA is the lifelong friendships we built. ❤️

Laura is off to new adventures with Emma in junior high, and Bethany is going to start splitting her time with another passion of hers…helping protect kids from the dangers of smartphones (because of course she).

I will speak for the PSA and the whole school community when I say thank you so much for everything and we are going to miss yas. But this isn’t goodbye—it’s just see ya later.

Love you both. Thank you for everything💛💙

🎉 ROCKINGHAM, LOOK WHAT YOU DID! 🎉

Together, we raised $23,316 this year! 🙌

That’s real money going straight back into our kids — into field trips, gym benches, school resources, staff appreciation, assembly events, and so much more!

👉 But here’s the truth:
None of this happens without volunteers!
Every popcorn Friday, every dance, every fair booth — it takes people stepping up. This year’s success is proof of what’s possible when our community shows up. 💪

Announcing the Donna Dodsworth Service Award

On June 26, 2025, at the Halifax West High School Graduation Ceremony, we will proudly present the inaugural Donna Dodsworth Service Award, an honour created to celebrate the spirit of selfless community care that Donna embodied throughout her life.

Donna Dodsworth spent her days building bridges, through her work, her volunteerism, and her unwavering belief that stronger communities grow through compassion, connection, and care.

From the Food Bank and family resource centres to local politics, the Rockingham Grannies, and her role at the school board, Donna lived her values, offering kindness without expectation of return. She believed in meeting people where they were, without judgement, and saw community as something we create together.

The award comes with a $500 gift, and will be presented each year to a Halifax West student selected by the school’s awards committee. A student who:

- Is engaged in community care through volunteer or grassroots groups
- Sees common humanity over differences
- Brings passion and heart to the movements they support

We are especially grateful to Flenjor Foods, a local grocery store with multiple locations across Nova Scotia, whose generous donation has made the first presentation of this award possible. Their support speaks directly to the same values of community giving and care that Donna championed.

This is more than an award, it’s a legacy of love in action, and we are honoured to carry Donna’s light forward through the next generation of changemakers.
