The Northwest Territories are full of little moments that make you stop and admire the world around you. Sometimes, it’s a bumblebee happily bouncing between fireweed blossoms. 🐝

Throughout the NWT, vibrant fireweed adds brilliant shades of pink and purple to the summer landscape and creates the perfect buffet for busy pollinators.

On your next adventure, slow down and look closely. Some of the most memorable moments are hiding among the wildflowers.

Watch as the Northwest Territories come alive along the waters!

Meet a few of the remarkable animals:
🦦 Mink are agile shoreline hunters. They can search for prey on land or in the water.
🐋 Beluga whales return to the warm, shallow waters of the Mackenzie River Estuary each summer.
🦆 Horned Grebes are small but striking, sporting golden “horns” and brilliant red eyes during the breeding season.
🪽 Loons are expert divers whose iconic calls form part of the soundtrack of a northern summer.

Plenty of thrilling wildlife encounters are waiting across the NWT. Observe from a respectful distance, protect their habitats, and leave the wild exactly as you found it. Grab your binoculars and plan your visit today!

For generations, float planes have helped connect the Northwest Territories. ✈️

With few roads and vast distances between destinations, Northern bush pilots turned lakes into runways, carrying people, mail and supplies across the territory. Today, a float plane is more than a way to get around, it’s your ticket to vast horizons, remote wilderness and adventures few travellers ever experience.

Are you ready to see the Northwest Territories from a whole new perspective?

Take a look at wildlife in action. 🦌

For millennia, caribou herds have traversed the vast Northern tundra, navigating ancient paths and braving powerful river currents with unbelievable resilience. Each year, barren-ground caribou travel up to 4,800 kilometres (3,000 miles) across the Arctic tundra. It’s always a treat to see the Northwest Territories wildlife on full display.
