Did you know?

The ending of "First Blood" originally featured the death of John Rambo, but Sylvester Stallone pushed against this. Rambo's adventures were initially meant to be a su***de mission and would have followed the original ending from David Morrell's book, "First Blood", also making it a standalone film. Stallone said that if the film killed Rambo off, it would essentially mean that the enemy had won, as well as him never escaping the mistreatment he experienced throughout the film.

Both endings were filmed on the same day, one after another. The producers told them they could not film the second ending as they were already over budget and over schedule but the director convinced them to give them 2 hours to shoot the new ending.

Once the movie was edited together, they had to decide which ending to keep. They screened the film to 2 test audiences, the 2 groups each being shown an ending to gauge their reactions. Those who saw the ending where Rambo lives were happy about the entire film. Those who saw the ending where Rambo dies said that they loved the film, but they felt disappointed in the ending. This was all the confirmation needed to switch out the ending, keeping Rambo alive.

In response to the new ending, and the success of the movie with the possibility for a sequel, David Morrell re-wrote the "First Blood" ending so that the book too kept Rambo alive.

Think you've got what it takes to check out Rambo's cell? šŸ‘€šŸš”
Well... not the cell from First Blood (sorry, no escaping through the ceiling šŸ˜‰), but you'll still get a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the Hope RCMP detachment during the Open House on August 15!

Come explore the cell block, meet the officers, see Police Dog Services and specialty units, enjoy a free community BBQ, and while you're in town, don't forget to visit the filming locations that made Hope famous.
Just remember... this time, you're free to leave whenever you like. šŸŽ¬šŸ’„

We had a very special guest at our office lately!

Ronald Graham - author of "Rambo: A Love Story" visited us to gift us a copy of his book.

Ronald Graham, a US veteran, is breaking down several important themes portrayed in the Rambo franchise. Throughout the book, Graham appeals to readers, both to veterans, directly informing them that they are not broken or alone, and to civilians, attempting to explain parts of the veteran experience.

Graham’s telling of personal experiences throughout the book give the reader a raw narrative in which they can truly reflect on how they can, and do, interact with veterans, whether as strangers or as loved ones.

The book gives an authentic perspective on the Rambo franchise, explaining its importance and symbolism for veterans rather than demanding it be known for its often-violent scenes.

It concludes with questions, meant to help facilitate group readings and discussions for veterans, showcasing Graham’s drive to help the next generation of ā€œmodern warriorsā€.
